I remenber seing an augmented Bees at the Isle of Wight festival a few years ago. I then caught up with the album 'Sunshine hit me'. I was very impressed, albeit very smashed, on both occasions. Subsequent albums didn't do for me though.
Got any good music? The Bees are wank.
^ I'm not surprised having seen your taste in music!
Loved the first album, second one, hmmmm, not so much.
Okay, so is that it? ...Nobody wants to review The Bees?
Doug and the Slugs a pop band (doo-wop) from Vancouver, circa 1980.
Their breakout album was Cognac and Bologna
Good songs:
Too Bad
Real Enough
and my favorite ...
Soldier of Fortune
OK The Bees.
Melvbot has never heard of The Bees before and was completely underwhelmed by their faux "were from the 60's" sound. Maybe they think theres a Quinten Tarrantino film coming up that they might get a song in on the soundtrack and make a few quid from it. Music always repeats itself and this is one of the lazier attempts at reproducing a sound from times gone past and twisting it for the present.
The quirkiness of the song "Chicken Payback" belies the fact that in the video the band appear to be taking themselves quite seriously in the performance of the song.
Drunk students in the UK will find some sort of comfort in this music as they arent old enough to have been subjected to regurgitated copies of a 60's sound too many times before, and will lap it up with copious amounts of snakebite and black.
The Bees will no doubt be a mild success for around a year then fade into obscurity only to come back with a more "serious" album in the future which will seal their fate in the musical graveyard of minor festivals playing alongside Rolf Harris with his wobble board.

So if their sound was 'modern' would you accuse them of copying todays style?lvbot has never heard of The Bees before and was completely underwhelmed by their faux "were from the 60's" sound.
No I would accuse them of having very little invention and following the herd as there are far too many average bands around these days who rely on making only the slightest change to a musical style to form there own "genre".
Its understandable that not every band can create their own distinctive sound but Chicken Payback sounds like a straight rip off of a song I cant remember the name of at the moment.
The UK is awash with average bands who for years have been putting "The" in the title for their band as it was slightly different for about a month. Now every band and his dog are calling themselves The *Somethings* and churning out some music that is only slightly different to their influences.
