    Iron Man

Finally found a watchable copy. Watched it with the nipper and he loved it but he ain reviewing it is he. Thought it was OK, effects wise pretty good, R.D Jr was OK, Gwyneth Paltrow is in one of the bigger movies to come out this summer and is still useless. She acts like a wet fish with a rock star for a husband.
Overall not bad, Im sure there will be a sequel.
As for the Scamps Hellboy review take it with a pinch of sodium chloride or NaCl if you like chemistry.

    StarGate: The Ark of Truth

as expected, rubbish, a movie for a retarded American audience. How do they get away with producing such garbage is amazing,

^ Yeah I've seen it, I though it was good - but hey that's just my opinion, what do I know about movies? I thought Edward Scissorhands was good.

Stargate: Continuim - some evil alien lad who is an enemy - somehow goes to the past and stargate team start disappearing. They somehow jump and end up in an alternate reality where stargate didnt exist. So they need to stop the invasion of earth and get back to their reality. 6/10 Basically an extended episode of tele show and much better the the Arc of Truth.

    American Psycho

Second time I've watched this. I think the mark of a good movie is that it's better the second time around. Christian Bale is excellent as the style obsessed axe wielding stock broker.

    8/10

    Mongol (2007)

"The greatest happiness is to vanquish your enemies, to chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth, to see those dear to them bathed in tears, to clasp to your bosom their wives and daughters..." -Genghis Khan

Slave. Prisoner. Husband. Father. Conquerer. Tyrant. We must not forget that this guy is known most for the latter. During his reign he slaughtered millions and raped and pillaged. In fact, over 16 million men share his Y chromosome in central Asia. This film focuses on the early life of Ghengis Khan, or Temudjin as he is known. It opens with him as a 9-year old boy on his way to another tribe to pick his wife. His father is murdered shortly afterwards, and thus begins a cycle of events that eventually lead up to him becoming a ruthless leader. But the bulk of this film is exposition. This is the first film in a trilogy about old Genghis, so it is mostly background that we see here. A lot of the movie is just him running from people who want to kill him, until he finally realizes that he needs to do something to unite Mongolia.

A lot of time is taken in this film to focus on the relationship with his wife, played by the beautiful Mongolian actress Khulan Chuluun (pictured above), a newcomer. She is the real find here, and will no doubt receive the same acclaim (and success) that Zhang Ziyi did when Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon came out. I found myself really pulling for her here, and hoping that she wouldn't get killed straightaway like in Braveheart (which this film has many parallels to).

The only fault I see with this film is that the battle scenes, although fantastic, are too short. The director chose to film the beginning of the battle scenes and then cut straight to the end result. However, this is still a brilliant film that is beautifully shot and well-acted by its international cast. It asks us to be sympathetic towards Ghenghis Khan, and although I don't think anyone in their right mind can do such a thing, there are certain qualities in his character to admire. This film is one of the best I've seen in awhile, and was wondering if the long wait would be worth it. To those of you who are slowly downloading this, I can tell you that it was definitely worth the watch, and I eagerly await the next installment.

    9.5/10

Oh, and here's an interesting article about the film that I found:
Sergei Bodrov talks about Mongol, the first of his Genghis Khan trilogy - Times Online
"Fuck off. And take your stupid cult with you."

    -Scarlett Johansson to Tom Cruise

    Hellboy 2

Definitely a massive step up from the first one, not sure what movie scamp was watching giving it a 10/10 but I'll admit to being pleasantly surprised.
Nice blend of fantasy and humour and some decent effects.

it's directed by what's his name Del Torro that did Pan's Labyrinth.
It's certainly no Pan's Labyrinth which in my opinion was as near to a 10/10 movie you can get.

    I'll give it a healthy 6/10

    Bigger, Stronger Faster. (2008)

Extremely enjoyable documentary about the use of steroids in US sport from the lowly gym pig to the elite athletes.
very well made and seriously enjoyable.

Written and narrated by a clean body builder whose brothers all take steroids and give candid interviews about their use.

certainly a movie that'll get you thinking and maybe see the whole situation in a very different light.

    Farewell, My Concubine.

A bit too long, too boring and they speak funny. I've only managed 2 of the 3 hours so far and Gong Li hasn't got her baps out yet.

I'll finish it later, but first to finish the rest of 'Ploy'.

    Ploy

Every relationship has an expiration date. Every relationship needs its fantasies…some more real than others… A violent death of a relative brings Wit and his wife, Dang, back to Bangkok from America, where they own a Thai restaurant, for the first time in 7 years. As soon as they arrive in Bangkok at 5.30 am. Wit and Dang check into a five-star hotel downtown. Wit finds out that he is out of cigarettes once they are inside the room. He goes down to the lobby bar. After getting his pack of cigarette from the bartender Wit decides to order a cup of coffee and smoke his cigarette there. The girl from the table in the dark corner comes to Wit to ask if she could borrow his lighter. Wit hands her his lighter. Then she asks if she could borrow one cigarette too. The girl sits down and lights up one of his cigarettes and they somehow strike up a conversation. Wit learns that her name is PLOY. This is how our little tale of love and jealousy begins. A highly detailed psychological drama with three strangers locked inside one hotel room. It starts with subtle suspicions and builds up to hilarious jealousy, as the appearance of the young woman triggers the couple to suddenly realize how they had grown apart in their seven-year marriage, before reaching a devastating climax. In the final act, the couple is faced with the choice of going separate ways or turns around and embraces each other for a new beginning.
I quite like character based movies. Asian directors tend to do these pretty well. I quite liked the story, the young strumpet and the maid who was shagging throughout the movie (though fek knows why).

    Shagging maid...

    Young strumpet...

    Very enjoyable.

Wait a minute....do we finally have a Thai movie worth watching? And the "young strumpet" doesn't have whiter than white skin? Amazing.

    Starship Troopers 3 Maruder

This is the "real" sequel to the original one, with nice SFX and real actors, big difference from the fake number 2,

Interesting twist at the end, so much better than I expected, worth watching while waiting for a download

Indeed we do. The shagging maid was also in Monrak Transistor which I remember watching at the cinema here a few years ago. I might DL that.
