about the martian, the film is ok for a flick, but the yanks should not make movies like this, have they ever been into space? its silent out there,

its like there aiming for ten year old kids all the time, apart from minor niggles, and there are a few,

one thing that realy pisses me off, why do they always have lights shining into there
eyes, from inside there helmets at night, when inside the rover, full cabin lights at night??
2001 got it right over 50 years ago,

    A very powerful insightful film.

I just finished watching Everest. Yeah, it was insightful and powerful. The film follows Krakauer's Into Thin Air very closely.

And the leader's decision to help Doug get to the summit after getting so close but not making it (for second time) cost him his life and Doug's.

Oh, well. That goes with the territory.

All the characters were real people and their backgrounds are accurate (meaning it follows the book.)

    Good movie.

I gave up watching Everest, serves them right I thought, thrill seeking idiots got what they were after.

Just watched 45 years with Tom Courtney (thought he was dead) and Charlotte Rampling. Feels like 45 years watching it as well, not a lot happens. Wife gets jealous when the body of her husbands ex is found in a glacier where she slipped and died over 50 years ago and before said wife met him. Are women this mad? probably. Great acting but slow and predictable.

Yeah if he don't get a Oscar for this he never will. In real life he forgave the blokes who left him, one had joined the army, but he got his rifle back. Killed by Indians a few years later. Leo has made some great movies, apart from the beach of course.

^ Especially, when his breakout film (The Titanic) was made, he was still practically a kid.

"Beasts Of No Nation". Child somewhere in W. Africa is recruited as a child soldier by rebels after Govt forces kill his family.
Brutal portrayal of the dysfunctional civil wars waged in this continent, but uplifting performances, especially by the young protagonist "Agu". (Played by Abraham Attah).
Enjoyed it a lot, nominated for a gong or two I would imagine. 8.5/10.

    Explain why.

Do you think that was a good decision by the leader?

I do not think you have any idea of what I'm talking about. So, tell.

Panthai Norasing a film about the bloke who kids learn about in Thai Schools. Seems like an idiot to me as he begged the king to execute him after the king forgave him for crashing his row boat and snapping the bow piece off. He is held up as an example of thai Integrity, not been many since him by the look of it, this was over 200 years ago.

Bloody thing is 3 hours long and we only went cos the mrs hates sc fi so star wars was out of the question. Usuall Thai approach, jokey, poor fight scenes and overly sentimentalized mythological version of Thai history. Most is just made up, but the audience probably thinks it all happened as in the film.

You can see his modernized shrine off Rama 2, has about 100.000 chicken statues there now as well as a bit of wood said to have been used to tie Norasing to, the old boat there has nothing to do with him. Worth a visit just for a laugh and nice walks over the river next to the shrine. Film 5 out of 10, mrs cried her eyes out!

Cool Panthai Norasing (Thai language w/ English subtitles)

I actually thought this film was a terrific piece of propaganda on behalf of the current regime to the Thai people.

Doesn't "bringing happiness to the people" start within each individual's conscience of 'upholding the letter of the law' ?
Don't you believe that if all Thais were more like Panthai there would no longer be conflicts or dissension ?
Remember who his 'blood brother' was ? (wink, wink).

Truth be told, it was nice to see that guys going out and getting drunk without nagging handbags has deep roots in Thailand.

I can't tell you how any Thai national truly felt about the movie though I was told that they enjoyed it very much and it is a true story.
(ie: GeoW and the apple tree.)

I'd recommend this Thai-language movie with English subtitles if you're living in LOS...particularly if you're part of a Thai relationship - bring your immediate family. Coffee meter: 6.25/ 10 .

[Personally I simply enjoy going to a movie at my local theatre for the large non-buttered , salty popcorn. It takes me two days to finish. Lots of fibre I'm told. ]

-For purpose of comparison The Last Executioner (with English subtitles) which I viewed 2014 I rated 7.7/ 10.-

i downloaded 'the skin i live in' about 3 years ago and it had sat ony hard drive ever since along with reams of other unwatched stuff

after listening to a detailed podcast review, i finally gave it a go...

i love a few of pedro almodovar's previous movies...in particular 'talk to her' and this was another excellent movie

difficult to grade it and i don't think it would be everybody's cup of tea but it's very clever and fukks with your expectations...the twist reveal takes place over a number of scenes rather than a big clang 'oh my god' moment

    i recommend it

Ironically, it's just won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture COMEDY!

I guess I'm in a minority on this one. Ridley Scott has fallen a long way since Alien and Blade Runner. A very predictable plot with some funny moments. Left me pretty bored.
