I watched 'Jack Reacher' last night. latest Tom Cruise joint.

Meh, it was ok-ish I suppose. Just another action flick with not a whole lot to distinguish it really.

I liked it but the mystery came together a bit too easily.

Agree on both counts. The Master is a brilliant film and it sent me back to watch There Will Be Blood again. I liked it the first time but this time thought it was a bloody great film.

It would be interesting to do a thread about posters' favorite Father and Son flics. That does seem to be the main theme in Anderson's films.
That is certainly a recurring theme in his films to date. He also explored
contrasting types of madness - one inwardly directed and self destructive the other outwardly directed and controlling.

^^Yeah, without giving away any spoilers I found that thing that happened to the suspect in the prison van and the consequences a bit too convenient to the plot as well.

^ The Reacher books are pretty good, just finished the latest one. The movie was an ok Hollywood book-to-film piece, although Cruise as Reacher? He's 6'5 & 250lb in the books...

Had my 6-year-old son all day today, at loose ends so I took him to see "Oz the Great and Powerful " in 3D. My son seemed to enjoy it, while I was bored to tears and would happily have walked out. Wooden, trite dialogue, nonsensical plot, awful performances, with all the human actors upstaged by a CG china doll. The usually good James Franco comes across as an aging mall rat transported to the late 19th century, Michelle Williams is simply not pretty enough to be Glinda (even my son commented on her lack of appeal, without prompting) and Mila Kunis looks like what she is- a decent sitcom actress with pornstar looks. Terrible movie, but uncritical kids under 12 will probably be entertained by the CG, which has all the subtle beauty of a Thomas Kinkade painting.

They are not agatha Christie and the plots are not super twisted, you usually figure it out a third through, but still a fun read.

^Yep. Basically, popcorn books. Buy em, read em, forget em. Ok for airplane or pool books if you have nothing else.

Watched 'The Paperboy' last night, very worthwhile. Set in 1960's Florida, the plot revolves the three main characters, Nicole Kidman, John Cusack and Mathew McConaughey, all of whom are in completely unexpected roles. Kidman plays a middle aged tart with a penchant for men behind bars. Cusack is a death row prisoner convicted of murdering the county sherrif, and McConaughey is a gay newspaper reporter.

Some startling scenes in it, and I wouldn't recommend letting children watch it for sure.

    Team America: World Police

Just watched this again for about the 4th time. Still nearly piss myself laughing in some scenes.

We're dicks! We're reckless, arrogant, stupid dicks. And the Film Actors Guild are pussies. And Kim Jong Il is an asshole. Pussies don't like dicks, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes: assholes that just want to shit on everything. Pussies may think they can deal with assholes their way. But the only thing that can fuck an asshole is a dick, with some balls. The problem with dicks is: they fuck too much or fuck when it isn't appropriate - and it takes a pussy to show them that. But sometimes, pussies can be so full of shit that they become assholes themselves... because pussies are an inch and half away from ass holes. I don't know much about this crazy, crazy world, but I do know this: If you don't let us fuck this asshole, we're going to have our dicks and pussies all covered in shit!

I don't think it's the movie of the century but it has definitively something. I watched it with my wife and usually after watching a movie together, that's the kind of discussion we have :
    - It was a good movie
    - Yeah a good movie
    - Definitively a good movie ... where do we go for dinner ?

After watching the Life of Pi, we talked about the meaning of almost each and every scene for the next two days . Which makes it definitively not your average movie.

We watched it in 2D and I just saw in 3D at my local movie shop. If there are movies that justify 3D, Life of Pi is definitively one of them.

    7 Sickopaths... Enjoyed that.

Spoiler: First scene - 2 pretty good actors start setting the story then get shot in the head.

Spoiler too: The ending is good. The final ending after the credits start.

    Enjoyable... 7.5/10

"The Human Condition" by Masaki Kobayashi.

This one's not for everyone, but I found it fascinating. It's 9 and 1/2 hours long, in Japanese with very good subtitles. It tracks the journey of a young Japanese man through the mines of Manchuria, the brutality of the recruit training in the Japanese army, life in a prison camp, and his quest to return to his wife in Southern Manchuria. Set in the final years of WW2, it's a stark black and white film. I got so involved that after a while I didn't even notice the subtitles.

This was originally three movies, and was later combined into one.

I thought it was very different, and extremely well done.

    Kapringen (A Hijacking)

Very authentic feel to this Danish movie about a ship hijacking and the ransom negotiation. Quite slow though so not a roller coaster 106 minutes.

    6/10

    Mea Maxima Culpa

Very interesting documentary movie about the Catholic church's handling of the child abuse scandal. Interesting to understand more of the church structure and politics and how high up the cover up goes.

Hi..watched "The Big Lebowski" again last night..the "Dude" cracks me up..also John Goodman.
If you like Robert Redford..his daughter directed "The Guitar" Saffron Burrows..top film.
Also "Girl in a Cafe" Bill Nighy.
The Guitar is about lady who finds out, all in one day, has cancer in throat 3 months to live, got dumped by B/F..fired from job..its not depressing..life changing for Saffrons character.
Another one"Station Agent" quirky film..but great
    Cheers

Last night I watched " Bad Grandpa " with Johnny Knoxville.

I thought it was hilarious in parts with Johnny and his young off-sider ad-libing in some very funny situations.
