I reviewed 2 in #3294. Maybe not long or detailed reviews, but longer than some of the one-liners you've got on here

I'm downloading "The Ruling Class" 1972 starring Peter O'Toole and Arthur Lowe. There's only one seed so I'll report back in a few days hopefully. I remember seeing this film years ago and had the impression it was a bit different.

Watched the end of it last night and agree with you both. Extremely good film. It should be required watching for certain TD members, IMO, especially the lynching scene and the final debate. The final debate made me cry. Very good film.

Of Time And The City - Documentary

Made almost completely from archive footage from early 1900's to the present day. Its narrated in a strange way, sort of in rhymes and quotes which for the first 10 or so minutes made me think about switching it off as it was coming across a bit religious. I stuck with it and theres the odd laugh thrown in by this style and its quite interesting to watch some of the footage of how Liverpool has changed over the years.

Around 1h 10 mins and a bit different to your normal documentary.

Came out in '56, so not quite 70 yet. The story was loosely based on Shakespeare's "The Tempest." That doesn't neccessarily make it good, but one man's meat is another man's poison.

One of my favorites. IMO, you gotta get into the spirit of 50's scifi movies. Forbidden Planet has a lot of things going for it: Robby the Robot, one of the first (or maybe the first) use of electronic music, Fruedian psychology (the id) etc.

    Blindness

A mysterious virus is spreading through the population. People are suddenly going blind. Early victims are quarrantined in an old asylum all blind except one, a wife who accompanied her husband into isolation. Food is rationed and power struggles occur over who gets food.

    Intense.

Get a copy with subtitles if you want to understand the short (but mostly irrelevant) passages of Japanese in the film.

    The Gray Man - 2007

Got this from IP packaged as a DVD screener for 2009 but its a KVCD from 2007. The Story of Albert H Fish who claimed to have "had children in every state" putting a figure of 100 at one point, these were crimes not his own children.

He was a cannibal and murder of young children, most notably Grace Budd who went missing. Not bad acting, not excellent. The sound on the copy was poor which took away from it a bit but overall I thought it was OK

Can't say I really agree with this: I thought it was a very average triumph-of-the-underdogs movie. The debates were reduced to either proving that someone famous agrees with you or pulling the heart strings sentimental bullshit. Denzel was on auto-pilot and, with the exception of Forest Whittaker and the chubby lad who played his son, the rest of the actors were fairly forgetable.

Debate isn't like football, so to indicate who was winning the debate the movie makers felt it was necessary to include inspriational music, etc, etc.

'Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle.' Well, I thought it was funny but I'm sure anyone who has never smoked dope will not see anything in it at all. Viewable in chunks on You Tube.

^ I watched 'Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo' the other night on the tele... Same as the first flick as it picks up right where the first film ended... Same, same, but not different... Typical slapstick / stoner movie as pioneered by Cheech & Chong so many moons ago... I give it a 5 out of 10, and only if you're stoned...

    I watched MASH tonight.

It was very confusing with the wrong actors playing the characters.

Valkerie. Very good, we all know the ending. I'm gonna watch it again with no beer inside me. I got a little nationalistic watching it.

Fell asleep at the Mothman Prophecies. Might not have been the film's fault, but I did find what I watched extremely confusing. Will try again & review then.

    I Love Huckabee, 2004

with Jude Law, and a number of other famous hollywood actors

Strange little story about a guy searching for the meaning of his life, done in a very "loufoque" or goofy kind of way and making it very refreshing to follow. Excellent performance with a number of humorously complicated philosophical dialogue uniquely delivered by class A actors. Pace is quite slow, but the movie was so refreshing that it was actually worth it. Not to watch late at night or you would fall asleep.

I really enjoyed that one, and great little music.

Thanks again to BkkMadness for his recommendation.

    XIII,

This is an adaption from the famous Belgian authored illustration series about a dark political intrigue of a hitman who lost his memory. It's the same author as Largo Winch, which was adapted for TV.

The movie is in 2 parts of 1h20 each. It's quite long. It's a mix of the "Bourne Identity" and "24" without the actions and the pace

it's a bit boring and slow, they speak too much. I haven't finished it yet as I keep falling asleep before the end. Ok to watch before going to bed.
