^Yes, true. The 'in-ear' design should be enough to mitigate ambient annoyances in the gym, (other than throwing a dumbbell through the tv screen).

^Bit of a bump: Sennheiser ear plugs arrived and in use. Found that if you're using an iPod as your music source (I use the tiny Shuffle version), the settings and equalizer need adjusting from iTunes (bass up; 'Soundcheck' off), but the sound quality is great. Using the larger earplug size works well to remove ambient noise also. Excellent for the gym, and bargain at only 2,500 THB.

Hifiman 400 are good headphones if you want superior audio sound at a reasonable cost. If you want blue tooth dont pay too much as wired is the best. If you are an audiophile lke Snubby you could buy a pair of Sennheiser HE90 electrostatic headphones, a steal at only 10,000 pounds sterling.
