The single gateway is about political dissent, not about torrents...but that's just my guess.

Prawit: Single gateway is a must | Bangkok Post: news

The junta is moving ahead with plans to restrict all internet content coming in to Thailand through one gateway controlled by the government.

It's about content coming into the country. The new internet crime law is vaguely written and allows for 15 year jail sentences for content that the government deems immoral. They will have broad latitude allowed to prosecute anything on a computer that displeases them.

In my humble opinion, what the government will find immoral will be any criticism of the government or the monarchy.

The point is that no one knows what they will fiddle with. The computer crime bill is very poorly written on purpose to allow a tremendous amount of latitude regarding what can be prosecuted.

One isn't forced to be obligated nor dictated by the likes of True.

There are plenty of options available - find a satellite/cable service that suites your needs.

I would agree if a Chromecast device would work in Thailand

I think the selfies, being a species of leeches and invertebrates, lack the backbone to lash back at anybody.

No question but not an option for us living in Ban Nowhere. No phone line. No wifi. Only 3G.
Losing HBO and Cinemax no big deal for me anyway. Rarely viewed. Will stick with True in hope subscription fees will reduce with removal of HBO and Cinemax. Not holding my breath however.

    True lowering their fees? Shiiiiiiiiiiit

    ToT Wi-Max isn't available?

They make really good long range bridging technology today for nothing more than the cost of an expensive router.

I helped a couple guys get decent internet with this tech:

    https://www.ubnt.com/airmax/nanostationm/

150 mbps throughput @ 10 kilometers and no harder to setup than a router. Just need a friend to let you tap in to their source and broadcast it to a house.

Need decent "line of sight" though. So, rooftop, or pole mounted.

You've been in Thailand long enough to know what they will do....

An increase is the most likely option.

As you advised in another thread long ago I sure did. Visited the local ToT office and was told they would come out and check it out. After a month of no show I went out again and was told I was too far from a fiber conjection point but coming soon. I asked how soon. Not sure but soon. I then put the fiber solution in my too hard box.
