New TV - 55"-80+"

It is time to update my 8+yo TV - projector style - 95" screen TV - quality/definition - inferior - bought in CNX. Things have changed in 8 years!
My research says Samsung - 55"-80+"; LED, LCD, Plasma, HD, 3D - no idea. Not a lover of Sony - not value for $$$; Panasonic - years ago, I would not buy anything else. LG - I am "told" that there is better.
WHAT MATTERS - SIZE & COLOR/DEFINITION - WE LUV SPORT! GADGETS - NO NEED!
PRICE - UP TO B100k.
Mini hometheatre - research says - similar brand to TV - less remote controls required. My previous HT was about B100k (Yamaha) = overkill. Used for CDs & DVDs. Price - my guess - up to B20k.
I do not need to buy "yesterday" - say in the next few months. We will have a room dedicated to home entertainment - I love a "bargain".
I live in CNX but am moving to Fang. Suggested supplier? BKK, CNX or Fang.
I enjoy TV (sport/current affairs) - FIL likes movies, wife - sport & Thai soapies - MIL - early to bed.
I know stuff all about downloading from internet etc but am interested.
At the moment, we have TrueVision & CTH (soccer). I watch ABC (Oz). As we will be reviewing this aspect, any input would be appreciated. As you can tell, I am not media savvy so maybe service is an important aspect of the purchase (In Fang, there is a Lotus/Tesco, Nyom Pannitch (VG service) & ???)

Many years ago now (but not teensy weensy - big time - "Mr Bundaberg")! 30+ yrs in fact. In the end, I could not even "stand" myself. Now, I am a "super wowser"! Television is my only "friend".
If I was still drinking & smoking in Oz, the weekly bill would be AUD200/wk (THB6000). Cannot "afford" these luxuries now.

Jim - drinking & smoking - it has been a few years. Add to that the NT factor.
Stopped smoking in 1982 - Craven A, B&H & Winfield (red). Price - guess - 30c/packet. Now, $20/pkt.
Bundaberg Rum - 1984 - I used to buy it by the carton ($3/bottle). In one foul swoop, it went up to $4.50 (tax).
If you bought Bundy by the carton now, you would need an armed guard. $30/bottle?
I went back to Oz a few years ago - illness. I have a mother & sister. The sister "took" me for >$300k (that's what relatives are for). Am I going back soon? In maybe 40 years.

Well, that's what they do in Katherine anyway.

Compare all that to here in the wilds of LOS;

Smokes = $2 a carton - bought across the river from Lao I grant you.
Grog - Quality Lao Kao produced in the local distillery = Bht 900 for 5 gallons.

Plus, of course the freedom to grow your own weed for culinary purposes should you so desire.

It's a no brainer.

55" Samsung would be more than adequate given room sizes in your new build. Price range from 50k baht to 100k baht. 55k to 60k will get you more features than you will be capable of mastering.

I would buy it from a smaller shop. More likely to get more support than from a big chain.

"Luxuries" here are therefore about 10% of that in Oz. I do like the B900/5gallons purchase. I used to smoke 1-1.5pkts/day. Rum approaching 1 bottle/day ie total of $55-60/day=400/week (after paying income tax). That is "real" $$$ say $20k/ann pre tax.
Weed - never seen it - never tried it.

I'd go for the biggest chain store possible and, if and when the machine dies,
I'd take it back.

I should add that I say this to the purveyors of such goods whenever I buy them in the major chain stores.

They think it's really funny but always agree that i can come back anytime.

This was Big C in Chiang Rai by the way.

TV - actually 55" was my intuitive selection - price & resolution. As size increases, resolution decreases (at least it did in the past).
I do "like" B55-60k cf to B1.3m (as mentioned in a previous post).
Home-theatre - I will get Samsung too - for the reasons described above.
"Running costs" of an 85" TV - no idea. My guess is that technology has improved significantly.
From memory, there are MANY 55" Samsung models - any preferences - do not need too many bells & whistles - more LED v Plasma preference etc.
In CNX, I used an independent operator (NP - many branches in Nthn Thailand). Good service, good pricing - delivery, setup, operating instructions - fantastic. Of course, a tip & gift does help) - it helped to know the manager & the owner too.

Just had a look at quidlab.com in BKK.
Their 55" TVs are B42k, B61k & B75k. Oh, what a difference!
B42k - UA55H6400 - LED
B61k - UA55H7000 -LED
B75k - UA55H8000AK - LED

So, I guess that it is LED.
Now, to differentiate - Series 6400, 7000 & 8000!

A 42" for about 30,000 baht would be as good as one needs (might need to spend another 5,000-10,000 baht on decent speakers). Many folks go crazy and justify a 55"+ to themselves at 100,000 baht plus... Up to you...

I was looking in Num Chai (Sukhumvit Pattaya) last week, they had (from memory, which is fukkered) an 80 inch LG for about 300k and a 90 inch Sharp for about 350k.

Unless you are sitting 20 feet away from the screen a 42 to 50 inch is plenty.
Any bigger and your eyes can't take it all in at once.
LG, Panasonic, no matter, they are all pretty much the same.

This house construction, relocation etc is getting exciting. Normally, prices GO UP. I am currently in a situation where estimates are going down. (It is very easy to get carried away with ideas in TIT).
Currently, I have a 32" in the bedroom - 42"-50" at less than say B40k looks very inviting. Also, I do not need/desire the "bells & whistles".

If things keep going in this direction, I may be ordained as a Buddhist monk & have a 14" B&W TV in my room.
Alternatively, I can always drag my chair a little closer to the TV.

If you're buying a Samsung TV make sure the screen is real, not a copy that starts playing up a week after the warranty expires.

Of course this assumes the warranty is worth something, and not sure how you could check that anyway...ho hum...

In Thailand, or anywhere else for that matter, you discover the value of a warranty only if you make a claim.
Thais do not copy anything - do they?
