    "Thailand in your Hand"

    Tourism Authority of Thailand

"Thailand in your Hand" apps now available for free download
    Wednesday, March 07, 2012

TAT has launched a special webpage from which visitors can download apps for a wide range of smartphones to help them plan many different kinds of visits to Thailand, from honeymoons to studying martial arts and Thai culinary art.

A total of 19 apps are available for free download at All-in-one site for Thailand's mobile tourist applications for users of the iPhone, iPad, Android, BlackBerry and Nokia. They will significantly enhance the quality of the visitor experience by making it easy to get around and saving visitors' time and money searching for information.

The apps are presently available only in English, but a unique “Speak Thai” app offers help with basic translations in traditional and simplified Chinese, French, Japanese, and Russian.

TAT Governor Suraphon Svetasreni said, “With the TAT targeting more first-time visitors, these apps will go a long way towards helping travellers get around more comfortably without having to carry guidebooks. They can plan their journeys in advance, research their requirements and get assistance.

“All these facilities and services will help them focus on enjoying themselves, rather than wasting time, effort and money just gathering all the necessary information,” he added.

Altogether, the apps cover more than 10,000 topics in many areas; for example, medical tourism, Thai cooking classes and the sights and sounds of Chiang Mai and Phuket. One special app highlights just the “Top 50 Amazing Experiences in Thailand.”

Since smartphones became a global rage in 2011, the TAT has been studying and analyzing trends in their usage and popularity in terms of market penetration, ability to disseminate information and activities, build awareness and organise more targeted marketing activities for tourists and interested person worldwide.

A dedicated IT development team was set up to create these special tourism-related apps under the global marketing theme, “Amazing Thailand: Always Amazes You.” The applications are full of interesting facts, travel tips and destination details; all available for free.

Thanks mid. I just downloaded it and took a look. This can be very helpful.

Chaing Mai looks finished very well though some some the smaller destinations could use more photos.

Where's the drinking and whoring one? I mean surely that's the most popular pastime?

'Not available in your Country'. I am in China and it's not my Country, but Thailand gets a shit load of Chinese tourists every year, so why is it not available?

This app is incompatible with all of your devices.

I think they must have asked Butterfly for advice on how to roll it out.

Probably a waste of time anyway, the newest comment is:

thaibrew on March 7, 2012 (Samsung Galaxy S2 with version 2.2)Outdated

Data is several years old. That makes the app useless.
Which knowing Thailand is undoubtedly true.

Several years old seem to be quite popular among some residents of Pattaya
