    I've got a 500s Dreamdox.
Paid around 4k for it and around 1.5k for the extra wireless router it needs to run on.
500ish baht every 3 months for "maintenance".
The box has no card and I had my old True dish that we use.
Got most of the channels (PPV included).
No major problems in the 2 years that I have had it.
If you have a Thai spouse/mate, then a quick Google search will point you in the right direction of a local company that will hook you up in a day or 2.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

Talked to the local Dreambox man. He's installing an HD Dreambox for me on Wednesday for 3,800 baht. I went out and bought an HD television set this morning.

Cheers I'll get the Mrs on to it later. I'm going to google it now anyway, even if I can't read Thai "Dreambox Thailand" should give me some pretty interesting picture results at the very least.

Do you know at which satellite(s) he's going to point it?

No idea. I'll ask when he's here.

Just looked at the equipment prices above. I can guess that the price he gave me is giving me credit for the box I have now. He's just swapping it out for the HD version.

Think my dish is pointing 78.5 degrees east or something.
It tells you shed loads of info on a bar at the bottom of the screen when you flick between channels (stuff like dish direction, channel icon, what's on now and next, time etc etc).

Forgot to add. These probally won't be genuine Dreamboxes you get, but Chinese copies. A quick Wiki search will tell you this. Think it also tells you how to spot a fake from a real one.

Actually most of the decent copies are Korean, they are prone to overheating, so if you find it gets rather hot, get one of those netbook cooling pads and plug it into the USB.

For ThaiCom5 (78.5e), here are the channels, although you'll have to find out which ones are decrypted:

    TrueVisions

    Sky Net

    Everything inc. Free to Air

What I ended up with is an Openbox HD recorder. It seems to be a more substantial piece of equipment than the Dreambox I had before.

HBO HD looks great. I'm pleased.

Ref: 'I get all True's channels except the HD ones.... I would like to find a Dreambox that will pick up those HD signals.'
Ask the seller to drop by; it's 2-minutes of fancy finger work with your remote to bring up the HD channels. Should be free.

You can get the Openbox S10 HD PVR for between 1,900 and 2,200, and from 2,500 plus addons. Most of the sellers I've contacted live in Mae Sai, Udon, Chiang Rai, etc., so I guess the box is coming out of Myanmar.

    Yeah, you're right.

Can anyone that's been to Mae Sot confirm if they can be bought at the border market. Was thinking of going on a pleasure trip down there instead of ordering over the web.

^Beware of electronics you buy at the border. Make sure to test before you buy.

    Thanks for the info.

I actually bought it around China Town for 2,,300 without a server. The dish was 700.

They were selling the ones with the server pre-installed for 3,800. I didn't ask if they were going to do the installation, but noticed a sign in Thai with 300 written.

Sorry to dig up an oldish thread, but are these boxes still working since the True up-grade?. I was in China Town Bangkok recently, and they were getting True from the boxes on sale their, but they would not talk to me.

^ The boxes pick up regular True but none of the premium channels and no HD.

The pirates are now offering another set of channels for movies. No HD. I missed the guy when he was around the other day so I don't know what is in the new package.

We had to buy a new HD box and got True Vietnam. It was crap, no Setanta Sport. We've now gone for the legit True package. No other choice so we were led to believe. Misskit can you find out what the pirates are offering as we were told it's genuine or nothing.

I've got a couple of Dreamboxes set up in spare bedrooms- even when they still picked up the True channels they were never as good as a legit box, but now they're pretty worthless- it's unlikely the new encryption will be successfully cracked, and even if it is, True can defeat it easily.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

I cancelled my True Gold package and they came to disconnect us and take the gear away just as I was reading about the new security that would block the Dreambox....

Obviously I never bothered to get the Dreambox... Holding off until it might be working again so these updates are handy.

Not missed True one bit though as I was rarely watching it anyway. I have a local cable provider (TMN) which provides the usual dross for the missus. Along with torrent downloads and the local bar for live sport I will be able to survive.

I like having all the channels (I have the top True package- Platinum or HD or whatever it is)- it's 2,859 baht per month for three different access points (only two of which I actually use- the third one was 'free'- I just had to buy a new box)- it's definitely too much money for what's offered, but it has improved over the years and new channels are added occasionally.

^ True have (or had) a deal on where you got 4 HD boxes and obviously 4 points with Platinum for 2,859 per month.
The nice True man will hook 1 box up at yours and the other 3 boxes at you mates houses for some beer money.
The bill goes to your house and your mates pay their share of 700 baht per month.
I personally know of 8 people doing this (2 groups of 4).
I was offered to "jump in to" a group but declined because it sounded a bit dodgy.
Now looked around the forums and talked to a few people and it seems it's common knowledge that people are now doing this.
