Cheers muppet - oops I mean Marmite.

I have been using it for about 12 months and download a fair bit of music. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of Australian country but thats a nother story another day.

I always hear/read about people downloading movies/tv shows but I can't seem to work it out.

I would love to download a fluu length good quality movie - say a latest realease (in the past 12 months) but it doesn't matter what name I type in all it comes up with is porn.
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

    on ya bike tummy rumbles.

I am assuming torrent is a fast (smaller size) way of downloading large files.

I am assuming I then need some other kind of programme to unzip/convert thing thing.

Am I on the right track?

If so - where do I get get free good quality movies from and what do i use to open and play them with?

I actually use my mac for work dd - you know that thing you do to make money.

When using your search function, memers, you have a choice to search for audio/video/images/ etc. . Click on 'search', then 'video', and you will have a choice of searching by movie name, etc..

I haven't downloaded any full-length movies, but have downloaded loads of episodes of Southpark, Simpsons, Ali-G, .....and even some oldies like Get-Smart!

    Hope this helps!

i use limewire for MP3's & stuff like scooby doo & tom & jerry. if you want movies then try one of the bit torrents. i was unimpressed with the selection of pron that limewire dredged up, torrents are much much better.

Some torrent advice from the experts please.

How many torrents should I be downloading at one time?

    What's an average download rate?

How long does an average file of say 400mb take you to download?

    Ta, in advance.

doesn't it all depend upon the size of the pipe that you have & to a certain extent your system. i think it does. then you have to consider just how many seeders there are, generally the more the better.

I try to keep it at around 5 or 6 files.

The download speed depends upon other users upload speeds and how many people are uploading that particular file. Also, files may be slow to start, but tend to pick up after a while.

Remember to keep your recently downloaded files available for others.

When you keep your files available for others how can you be sure that people can't access other areas of your computer?

The small torrent file that you download firstly, only points to that specific file.

    Are you Kerux?

    Thanks so far guys........

    But the questions still remain..

How many torrents should I be downloading at one time?
    Thanks marmite. 5-6.
I've got about 20 on the go at the minute.
Is my download speed going to be severely affected by the number?
Or is it going to be affected by the size?
    Or none of the above>

    What's an average download rate?

    Thanks Harry but..
How big is a good pipe?
Is it my pipe or my servers pipe?
    Can I increase my pipe?
My kbs is between 10-15 now but it does get as low as 4.

How long does an average file of say 400mb take you to download?

I can download 400mb in 2-3 days. Is that OK?

With your internet package, you should be able to just about achieve total download speeds of about 100kbps. The ISP may well limit that, as I think mine might do, but 50 to 100 is fine. Also, only download files that have a good number of Seeders, as these are the number of completed files available. Leechers are the number of partial files available.

It sounds to me that your PC has Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed. You probably need to open some more ports. I had a utility that did this, but I have never found it again when I've looked. Xzyte may be able to help you there.
