It's effortless for him, isn't it...being a total dick.
Leave it to Portland Jeff and his filthy kitchen tiles.
After 30+ days in the hole. No complaints.
No, not the TD jail. But alas home once again. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all the TD folks.
That looks fabulous!!
When I was a kid, growing up in Long Island NY, my dad had a 32 ft Owens wood cabin cruiser, with a 350 chevy V8, He loved that boat, he would spend all winter fixing it painting and varnishing.
After fishing at Oyster Bay on the north shore, we would head back to Haddington by the rocks and fill five gallon buckets of Mussels , He would make the best Mussel Fra Diavolo . Ahhh Good times. When I saw the above it reminded me of that.
Happy New Year!!
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
^ I had a dear friend end up getting his stomach pumped after eating apparently bad mussels. I've not touched them since.
I love mussels, and we have some great ones here in my neck of the woods.
Being that they are filter feeders and the state of pollution in many local waters, I can see how something like that could happen.
I checked for Long Island and did not see any advisories for mussels , which I find surprising, but was concern to the all the advisories for fish in some areas mostly due to PCBs.

So I did a bit more research on the subject and read the following:
" Shellfish areas can be temporarily closed as a result of naturally occurring pathogen outbreaks and harmful algal blooms. Closures due to shellfish-related foodborne illnesses caused by the naturally occurring (not sewage or pollution-related) marine bacterium Vibrio parahaemolyticus resulted in the extended closure of Connecticut’s most productive oyster grounds in Norwalk and Westport in both 2012 and 2013. New York’s most productive shellfishing area, Oyster Bay Harbor, was closed for several weeks in 2012. In New York, Oyster Bay Harbor and Cold Spring Harbor were closed for several weeks in 2013 after several confirmed Vibrio parahaemolyticus illnesses were traced to those harvest areas."

The ones we get are labeled New Zealand green-lipped mussels. I'll have to check the label a bit more closely to see if they are farm raised. We have these often and have never had an issue.
The pic doesn't do the dish justice. If we ever opened up a restaurant I'm sure they would be a hit.
I was just thinking it's about time for some shrimp spring rolls with the crushed peanut dipping sauce. Yum yum.
I don't think you need to worry. I am sure they are farm raised. I read that even those harvested in suspected areas, since they are filter feeders, would clean up if kept in clean water for 20 days.
Spring Rolls sound great, Not too far from us (1.5 hour drive) is Mayport , where the shrimp boats come in, A Cambodian lady we know goes there and brings loads of fresh ocean shrimp that she sells at the local Asian market at a very reasonable price,
Wife make Spring rolls all the time with the peanut Sauce. An easy quick. healthy and delicious lunch, I am glad you mentioned, perhaps we will have some today.
First day with no homestay guests so defrosted some chicken breasts then coated with a dry rub of salt, paprika, cajun spice, garlic powder and ground pepper. Charred them over charcoal before closing the lid and baking. To go with it oven baked some boiled spinach, covered with sliced button mushrooms and thinly siced potatoes. Added cooking cream, seasoned with mountain salt and fresh cracked pepper before baking in the oven. Chicken was maybe a bit overcooked but a nice change to what we've been able to prepare last several months being busy.
^ The desription is even better than the finished article, which looks great... although...mountain fukkin salt?
Tonight Matthew, I'm gonna have a Moroccan Lamb casserole with apricots and sultanas
Wish I'd noticed that 2 fukkin hour cooking time earlier
Hmmm... chippy, chinky,kebab?
Tonight Matthew? Tonight Mohammed, surely?
Fun fact:
In Marrakesh the food is really tangy, but there's another city where it's even Tangier.
Chitty would be frying those apricots and sultanas with a bit of squid and putting them on his fusion pizzas.
I absolutely love apricots... in a yoghurt. It's my favourite flavour. I despise sultanas in any shape or form.
I guess all I'm saying is, this is probably not the meal for me, not that that matters of course.
Mmmm pizza
Its just a big round cheese sandwich really
Chitty, get round here with the works fork lift
