Mince n tatties. We always opted for the course mince in our house. My grandma used fine mince or ground beef you might call it. I think course is better as it's good to get a bit of chew instead of just drinking it.

I think we ate mince 3 or 4 times a week at one point until I made an official protest that I just didn't like it and refused to go there. I managed to hold that up for around 2 years before I crumbled.

There's no such thing as bad mince n tatties.

    Don't forget the peas.

    Can’t go wrong with a meat-veg-carb-powder/paste/sauce combo.

Pasta, chicken, bacon, onion, mushroom with Campbell’s condensed mushroom soup diluted with milk is a staff house special of mine and lasts for days.

    Empty plates = success

    Variety is the key!

    It's a marathon not a sprint mate.

Does the missus do any cooking for them or is it all your responsibility?

Not easy if the kids are picky.

You can ofcourse do two menues; one safe bet and one to broaden their horizon.

You'll end up eating the 'horizon' one yourself

True enough Helge, but you've gotta keep battling on with the healthy home cooked challenge .
Otherwise they'd be quite happy eating crisps, pizzas, mama noodles and sugary drinks till diabetes strikes.

I look around at the youth of today and think wtf is going on with all these obese people.
When I was growing up everyone was skinny and a lard arse was a medical rarity.

Thankfully my three kids are healthy and not obese.

She cooks lao food for them once in a while , friday nightis takeaway fish n chips or kebabs . Food has become expensive here making it a necessity to eat at home mostly, a cooked chook can be had at costco for $7.00 and there one nearby. The slow cookers the go for stews etc but the oldest one picks all the veg out of it

You've just gotta mix it up a bit to keep them interested... and give 'em plenty of veg.

A few days ago my daughter actually told me that she doesn't feel 'right' after eating junk food. This made me pretty proud as I've trained her up, as my parents did to me, to always have something green on the plate. Pizza, burgers and KFC aren't part of her diet... just occasional treats because kids just seem to love that crap.

    A few recent examples...

Peas with cheese and bacon quiche (dead easy).

Peas with sprouts, broccoli and roast pork.

And just to show I'm not a one trick monkey, mushy peas with chips and barramundi!

I usually find the veggies go down pretty quick as a means for the tablet to reappear and the WiFi to go back on.

Stand your ground and leave it off til they eat their veggies the next night.

My daughter could happily eat the same pork and rice every day all week. She takes after me that she's not great at trying new stuff but as she grew up in Bangkok and I grew up in Norfolk we have quite different tastes!

Every now and then she'll shock us with wanting a steak or something.
I'd like to see what morning looks like
Don't wanna drink pint after pint
I wanna wake up without feeling sick
    But I can't cuz I'm a drug-abusing alcoholic
