Cutting Calories 25% Slows Aging in Humans, Study Suggests

Cutting calories by 25% can slow the rate of aging in humans and lead to a significant reduction in mortality risk, according to a new study from Columbia University.

In a randomized controlled trial one group was fed a calorie-restricted diet for two years, while others followed their regular diets.
The researchers examined levels of a biomarker in the volunteers' DNA — measured before and after the study — that's known to change with age.

Results showed those eating a calorie-restricted diet displayed a 2-3% slowing in the pace of aging, which, according to earlier studies, equates to a 10-15% reduction in mortality risk — similar to that experienced by a smoker who has quit.

Calen Ryan, research scientist at Columbia’s Butler Aging Center and co-lead author of the study acknowledged long-term calorie restriction isn’t practical for much of the population.

“Our findings are important because they provide evidence from a randomized trial that slowing human aging may be possible. They also give us a sense of the kinds of effects we might look for in trials of interventions that could appeal to more people, like intermittent fasting or time-restricted eating.”

The team is now monitoring the trial's participants to see whether slowing the pace of aging in the short term could have longer term effects on healthy aging.

    ^ Firstly welcome back BB

    Today is "Filet Friday".

2.5" thick rosemary and thyme spiced tenderloin, with tater and shrooms and a nice ice cold beer on a 34c evening to wash it down

Medium rare tenderloin, hit the spot. to be honest, it's probably more of a rare than a medium rate. But with good meat it doesn't matter.

The frozen veg is a lovely addition.

I do hope your companions didn't die of shame as they watched a middle aged white man try to focus his camera on meat on a fork.

^Its a fair cop Willy, Stumpy's photography skillz do edge it just a smidge in this weekends carnivorous steak-off

Headlights under a mango tree herald a welcome visitation

I told Senorita not bring any more KFC and she said she was coming over for a plate of curry but when she jumps out of the car she is clutching another bag from the good colonel

    Dinner-img_20230211_213319-jpg

She said she could smell it as she was driving and could not drive past the fine aroma without stopping

    Dinner-img_20230211_213355-jpg

As a compromise I whipped up a side of tandoori and this is Senorita ladling it on top

    Dinner-img_20230211_220047c2-jpg

She declared it a hit and is planning on marketing the idea to her local KFC outlet as a Gunga Din Thursday special

Oh I have no illusions about the limitations of my camera phone and photograph lack of skills.

Which establishment gets their manager to wear a video surveillance device before refusing to serve you any more drinks for being too loud and then tell you he doesnt appreciate his photo being taken?

...and please for the love of God, this is a family forum.

I'm hoping that is a finger and not what it looks like in the top left near the cleavage.
