Year after year I promised myself I'd do the same. The only time I ever did it was on Samui once and it was massively overpriced and shit.

Had some good times on Samui in my backpacking days 25 years ago.

Revisited the old haunts a few years ago and the beaches were filthy and polluted.
Sad to see, wouldn't go back again.

We are currently having a very unusual cold snap here, last night it was -9c, and it is currently -6c here. We are blanketed in a foot of snow and as I live on a hill I am snowed in, I can't drive and have to walk in the cold and snow to get groceries and beer. So I went up and got some smoked pork and made a Mexican pork soup. Perfect for the cold...

Khao pad moo, penang gai and kai jeow washed down with a Singha in an Asahi glass on an IKEA mat with an IKEA plate + Big C cutlery I believe

The hob's playing up, but just about does the job. The gas flow seems to be blocked so I don't get much heat but bollocks, that's the least of my problems right now.



Tilapia will never replace cod or haddock, but if you're stuck in Isaan it's not a too bad substitute.

During my afternoon break I get a visit from 3 of my dogs, 1 at a time, which I look forward to.

Usually Bruno is first then when he has returned to guarding the gate the other 2 females arrive, stay for a couple of minutes then return to annoy the missus.

Bonnie the pug never visits as it is too far for her to walk.

A few Thai meals I had on my roadtrip.

Pad Thai but not like you have ever had before. It is served with plain wong tong and is probably my favourite dish in Thailand ever. It is nothing like any crappy tourist pad thai you have ever had before. I drive a 3hr roadtrip for this stuff; the only good thing my psycho ex gave me was this restaurant and a few great orgasms, most of them eating this dish.

Lake front place in Pha Yao; not too bad but not the best I have ever had.
