Fish sauce for dogs

Just curious, when I make my dogs dinner I like to jazz it up a bit with some fish sauce. Just a little but the rice and meat look a bit bland with out some and he is Thai after all.

Is this ok for him?

As for the question: Fish sauce is pretty salty - I'd make sure plenty of water was available....I doubt that the dog is too bothered with sauces and the like - I think that it's only us humans that feel the need to mess about with basic food groups - condiments are frivolities.

One of the vets in Ban Chang was saying that the water in a can of tuna isn't good for them. This is from my wife and I don't know if he meant the Spring Water or the Brine or the Oil. In any case, it's supposed to do something to their skin. We stopped for a while, his good skin stayed good. Then realized that he eats the neighbors trash, including chicken bones, anyway. So we started giving him the tuna water and he's still doing fine.

Dog also like salt and certain amount is good for 'em. I'd give 'im a squirt of Naam pla every now and again.

A dog is an urban wolf.Fish sauce, rice and Cans of food with jelly and crap in it aren't their natural diet, feed them meat and tripe it's a lot better for them.

On the tuna water...I understood that tuna was good for an animal's coat (dog or cat), so I'm thinking it must be the oil and not the water that could be the problem.

I had to start feeding my Schnauzer a prescription dog food because he developed pancreatis, reacting to all the fat in the table scraps/people food we were feeding him -- cost me nearly $800 US to pull him through, so watch the fat content as it messes up their digestive enzymes.

I used to feed the real Marmite Eukanuba, and I will feed my next dog a dried food as well.

I've been feeding my dog mostly Pedigree dry mixed with the canned. But in the back of my mind is that batch (or batches) of dry stuff a few years back that had some fungus in it from their feed silos that ended up killing a bunch of dogs off with kidney and/or liver cancer. So I'd like to get off of the Pedigree, because we all know how well Thai's learn from their mistakes and then go out of their way to correct them, especially if it costs them money to do the right thing...

A friend has just told me about a good, albeit expensive, brand called Propan. He feeds it to his dog and he said that not only is he bigger, in a healthy way, than he used to be, he's also noticibly more energetic and healthier than he used to be. None of the shops around Ban Chang seem to carry it, though...

Tesco/Lotus brand dog food is cheap and cheerful.
The crunchy dry pelletts make an adequate in-between meal, also good to keep them doggies occupied while the hung-over owner has his morning cuppa.

The tins come in chicken or liver flavour, the liver one would do well in a late night curry, but there's too many tiny bone bits in it.

Maybe I should splash out on a more upmarket brand, anyone tried the one with nice cube shaped pieces in jelly?

Do a search on the "Barf Diet" we use that as a base for our dogs, but we cook it and it is more of a stew without water. we also put a lot of pumpkin and rice in it to bulk it out.

The reason I used Eukanuba was because I could leave it out all day without it going off. Marmite used to help herself when she was hungry.

When I had dogs, there was always dry food out. Bowl got empty, it got full, same as water. Dogs get used to having food whenever they want, never gorge themselves nor are they apt to allow a bribe of food to help some thief befriend them.
Special treat was chicken and rice.

I agree. My dog loves bringing home rotten fish that he has found on the beach and fish sauce tastes and smells just like that.
