Hot cross buns - do you toast them?

I was talking to a friend of mine recently about hot cross buns. He said he toasted his. I said I don't toast mine. Controversial, he says. How so? I said. I've never known of anyone toasting them before. Google says some people do indeed toast hot cross buns. Fair enough. So what about the good people of Teakdoor? Do you toast your hot cross buns or eat them just as they are?

    I don't eat them, Nev.

My gran and my mum would get them in for Easter, I think.

My sister and I would mostly ignore them.

They're not things I - or anyone I know - would ever ask for.

I eat them toasted with butter on.
I'd have thought that was the only civilised way?

+1 on this. Just as bad as candied fruit bread that used to come out around Christmas.

Toasted. Otherwise they'd just be Cross Buns.

I haven't tasted hot cross buns but based on Internet pics, they look nice. I'd toast them & put a lil butter or margarine. If they're fresh & hot from the oven, then I wouldn't toast them but would still put butter.

Although on the rare occasions I have eaten them, they've always been toasted with butter.

I didn't realise people actually ate them cold. Yuk.

Scones, mind. Food of the gods...

They are simply a sweet bread bun with a cross on top that they bake during Easter. You are not missing much infact you guys in the p.i get the similar thing all year round called pandesal. My breakfast fave also great served warm and slathered in butter ( and vegimite) much to the horror of my Filipino colleagues.

We always had them toasted. Used to have toasted tea cakes on Saturdays back in the 60s and 70s. Hot cross bun was more or less the same thing with a cinnamon cross.

Can't recall anyone having then untoasted.

I actually bought ready made ones. Half a minute in the microwave and they were like the real thing.

Well, they are sold in supermarkets at room temperature so I reckon by law they should just call them crossed buns - unless they actually sell them hot or warmed.

Anyway, rumour has it (i.e. Google AI) that when crossed buns were first invented they were sold as soon as they came out of the oven and so were still hot or warm when sold, and the vendors would shout out to prospective customers "Come and get yer hot cross buns!" Or summit like that.

    So, it's official.

Cold Cross buns are only consumed by sociopaths.
