I guess that 'decadence' is relative depending on where you live. Some things that may be wonderfully decadent in Isaan may be standard for inmates of the UK.

I took the daughter out for lunch today so tonight we just had snacks...

A decent bag of imported crisps and a Scotch egg, courtesy of Korat Chef.

'Korat Chef - making life in Korat bearable'.

I used to make my own Scotch eggs but can no longer find slabs of sausage meat since 'Gourmet Meats' closed down.

While in Korat Chef I picked up an unplanned box of Mont Clair for Easter. This 3 litre box was 599 Baht!

    Yes, 599 Baht only.

These same boxes are close to 1000 Baht in Makro, Lotus's, everywhere else, where 1.5 litre bags cost around 570 Baht! Yes, practically double the price.

    Result!

I remember that during the 'Great Korat pea drought' of 2020 during Covid, I discovered that Talley's peas at Korat Chef were significantly cheaper than previously at Makro, etc.

I think there's a tendency to assume that prices at the big supermarkets are cheaper than at the small, specialist outlets. But obviously not.

^ If only you knew... my new lightweight one arrived a few days ago!

Anyway, good luck against Coventry tonight.

I think... maybe not too much luck. I think a 0-0 draw would be nice.

    There’s a reason it’s so cheap.

Le Dalou, Paris brasserie near Les Trones,Cr de Vincennes , if only I could afford daily seafood platter

    Le plateau du Maître écailler

    3 Claires n°3, 3 spéciales n°3, 1 amande
    1 palourde, 1 moule, 2 crevettes roses
    2 langoustines, bulots, bigorneaux
    crevettes grises, 1/2 tourteau
    Supplément homard +25.0€

    For non Francophones

    3 Claires No. 3, 3 Special No. 3, 1 almond
    1 clam, 1 mussel, 2 prawns
    2 langoustines, whelks, periwinkles
    brown shrimp, 1/2 crab
    Lobster supplement +€25.00

With a single glass of wine tax and tip not much change Euro 150 for two, as Lobster reasonable 25 why not, this is not an upscale resto just brasserie near my usual digs.
You can have a glass of plonk or beer for 5, and steak frites under 20 but I can never resist fresh seafood as so seldom on sale where I live.

Full menu here, good service nice upstairs diner with views or terrasse.

Le dalou – Menu en ligne | Restaurant Paris

fyi euro about $1.15 or 38 baht last time i changed
Russia went from being 2nd strongest army in the world to being the 2nd strongest in Ukraine

A while back, when there was allegedly a reduction in the tax on imported alcohol, I asked if anyone had noticed a corresponding drop in prices at the Makro/Lotus duopoly. Not a bit of it. Those profiteering bar stewards kept their prices all the same.
What did seem to happen is that some new labels arrived at better price points. CP reckoned, rightly, that consumer inertia would see people keep buying the same poor plonk at the same ripoff prices they were used to. This is only my hypothesis, although it seems to fit the known facts.
This was when Laughing Bird appeared. Only in the single bottle and the 1.5L bottles though. No new 3L boxes arrived to compete with their high margin stock. I've said it elsewhere, Laughing Bird might be cheap plonk, but it is at least wine, made from grapes. The boxes are all 'fruit wine products' made with 'selected orchard fruits'. Laughing Bird is often sold out, that tells you something.
Meanwhile, there is a wider range of wine than there used to be about the B400 price point. Still stupid money for the quality, still better than before.

Although highly commendable, Shutree, I think you might well be wasting your time trying to educate someone from a place where a pair of dungarees, denim jacket and wellington boots are referred to as a West Country Tuxedo, whose palate has been destroyed by decades of abuse of scrumpy jack cider and Isarn cough medicine by a yokel who thought Decadent were the 2 Geordie lads who host I'm a Celebrity.

Mont Clair does not contain fruit, it is a blend of two grape types and it origins in South Africa.
It is "cheap plonk" but you get good value for your money, I've drank much worse wine than that.

    That lamb looked perfectly done.

    One might say succulent.

You wouldn't have noticed that of course.

Your dog must have been the best fed mutt in Stoke with all your guests leftovers.
