    Start spreading the news...

I've just spent an hour trying to upload these photos, but the fucking system kicked me out when I tried to post, so let's try again.

Anyway, as part of my unending quest to decimate my bank account, I spent a week in New York in the summer. Here are a few of the pictures I took of the food and drink I guzzled as well as one or two shots of this wonderful city (it should probably be the other way round, but gluttony and debauchery is the way I roll).

Day 1 and we were picked up from the airport by my wife's cousin and taken to Coney Island (baby) and so it began...

What other country in the world would take an already sugar/fat laden sweet and then deep fry it? A bag of those probably took 10 moon off my life...I loved them and Lou would definitely have given me a thumbs up.

I've always wanted to try these, after seeing them on the telly, but I resisted the urge to eat 150 in 5 minutes.

Would you take a look at me chubby little Oirish hands (no longer alien fingers, Cy) and the $8 half pint I washed my feast down with?

Day 2 and, after a quick stop at the chemist to get 'er indoors chipped by Bill Gates, it was Korean time.

Btw, returning to Coney Island, and because the site is fucking me over, is it just me who sees these flats and immediately thinks of the film Candyman?

Having somehow resisted the urge to do chimek - the best fried chicken in the world by a stretch, but there are only so many calories a man can do in one day - it was time for a pint and a curry.

    Start spreading the news...-20210719_141616-jpg

But when is it not time for a pint and a curry?

I have no pictures of this, so I can only imagine I was 4 or 5 sheets to the wind.

More to come tomorrow, or when I can be arsed battling the upload button, but it's hard work posting photos on here and trying to create something worth reading/looking at.

    Thanks for the green snubs...

....but it's a half pint where I come from, where men are real men and the "ladies" would give that pitiful US serving short shrift too.

    It's murder.

The beer in NY was shite too and you pay crazy prices for it like you do in the rest of the US. Our colonial subjects have just discovered IPA, so that's everywhere, but you can find a decent Pilsner type bee or an ale if you ask them (even that often has the soapy taste of the IPA that they seem to be addicted to though).

To be fair to snubs - he knows its banter from me - and the other yanks, I love it there (I've been there 3 times in the last 2 years) and would go back even more if I could.

Miles and miles cheaper! I was asked for $25 for a pint in Miami a couple of years ago! We put away 10,000 GBP as a family of four on beer and food that trip.

Tops for a pint in London is about 5 quid something unless you're in a club or some fancy bar. Similar to Manchester, but you're baulking at anything at over a fiver. Between 3 quid and a fiver is the norm.

I can not speak to the "other" yanks. But I know for a fact they are thick as fuck and totally cancerous.

But you do not meet up with them in NYC, Seattle, SF, LA.

But you will find losers like repeater666 and FaRT in swamp water shitholes of Amerikkka. Voting outside their own best interests and most likely shopping at Walmart.

Fucking too right I did...along with Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, Turkish etc.

What's the point in being in a city like London or New York if you can't make the most of its diversity? That was the reason for being there!

(don't forget the Nathan's hot dogs though and the countless slices of NY pizza still to come in the next episode)

I don't mind it down there though. It's a different world, but a bit fucking scary.

Hmmm. I think AO pulled you up on this last week but, having lived in or been to most of the places above, I'd say there wasn't much difference if I'm being honest.

I'll stick the Vietnamese I had in Chinatown up tomorrow and more pics. Just the same as I've had in Hanoi, HCMC etc.

You could say the same for London too though (and other big cities), but Korean beef (hanwoo) is far superior to most things we have in the west.

Yeah, not going too well, pal.

My missus keeps laughing at me.

I've put on a stone this year (I went to Costa Rica for 2 weeks after as well) and it feels like I've been on a permanent holiday.

I'm at 92 kgs so am about a stone overweight for my height (6 foot). I keep telling myself to live for the moment, but I'm fast reaching the point where I can't see my toes like Dil.

But even in Austin, San Antonio, Houston and Dallas (where I stayed with my cousin and her husband) I was paying the same.

It was a dear do even for my dad, who is retired and cashed up, when we went to Miami and the Florida Quays. Like he said to me, the value just isn't there for him anymore and he'd rather go to Spain or Greece with my mum and spend his money there.

Don't get me wrong, I love the place, but eating out and having a battlecruise is hard on the wallet- even for Europeans.

I do get the diversity thing.

Personally, dogs and NY pizza would be on this list, but first bash would be jewish - lox and bagels, knish,Matzo ball soup, pastrami and corned beef, then onto NY Italian, maybe find some Manhattan clam chowder - then a hunt for chopped cheese and meat over rice.
