Ignore the haters, Betty. It looks good to me
^ one gets used to it...
There is a large COSTCO, but obviously very American - some stuff is shite (like the cheese) while other stuff is decent.
There are some terrible croissants in Korea with no "butter", they taste dry and awful. There's versions of butter, but not real butter. I'm in one of the major cities, but the choice is still crap - it's a very insular country; the big supermarkets have rows of identical Korean products... The bread in Korea is awful, sweet and tasteless (other than the sugar taste). There's one decent bakery around here that uses butter and has international quality croissants (they are $3 each...), it's always packed, sells out everything, opens at midday and is often closed by 4pm.
Korea is shite. The won is weak. Inflation is very high. Salaries do not increase with inflation. Lots of folks are leaving here heading to China where the cost of living is lower (improving) and the salaries are higher. Korea was good 15 to 20 years ago, but is a crap place to work. if it wasn't for the dog, I would have left years ago...
(Note to self: next life, avoid Korea and avoid Thailand... Work in London until your 50, keep moving jobs to maximize your salary, buy property and keep upscaling then retire to Spain, Gibralta or Malta.)
Cycling should be banned!!!
Surprised to hear that.
Are you talking about Koreans emigrating to China for better paid work, or foreign English teachers?
Sounds like China is far from the peasant strewn craphole many people try to put forward. Pretty much all of our housing estate in Chiang Mai are Chinese families that are here for their kids to go to international schools as they are apparently a 3rd of the price of Chinese ones.
Foreigners from various work backgrounds.
For a specifiic example: I know a guy who was in China for a couple of years, liked it but the salaries were low, he then went to Singapore and worked at a high admin level for three or four years. Came to Korea a couple of years ago for something different, took a pay cut, and has been shocked at how poor Korea is across the board. He is now heading back to China on a salary that's equal to a UK salary (about 55,000 pounds) which is double what he was earning in Korea - did a great job here, cannot be replaced because of his high skillset, but the Koreans do not give a fuk...
Korea is going down fast.
China (which I don't personally like) seems to be on the up, and very fast in some areas.
Edit to add: I've heard that some prices, such as housing and education, are going through the roof in China - thus, some Chinese folks are moving abroad.
Regarding Koreans, they are probably one of the most inherently racist and insecure groups I've ever met, while at the same time... research shows that they have one of the highest rates in the world (I read some research that said THE highest) of young people wanting to move abroad permanently. It's a horribly corrupt culture here, worse than Thailand in so much as there's no patronage (which to some extent means the patrons support the "lower" level workers), just top-down bullying, uni-directional communication - top-down obviously - with punitive ranking structures for lower tier employees. Again, suicide rates for students and young workers are very high (the last reports I read on this were about five years ago, but they claimed Korea was the highest in the developed world).
