How about some recipes for christmas bakery?
I could translate some if you want them.

go for it Fabs - don't forget the piccies!
Actually Fabian, it would be great if you might post some German nosh with pics. Especially Christmas nosh. I spent two Christmasses in Oberursel and pigged out both times. German food rocks.
Sorry, I forgot about this thread but I promise I will start this evening.
First we will try will be my current favourite cinnamon stars, in German "Zimtsterne".
To bake 60 of these babies we need:
6 eggs
500 grams icing sugar
700 grams grounded almonds
2-3 teaspoonful of cinnamon
and a little bit of butter
If you don't use the metric system, you have to calculate the grams into whatever for yourself.
And finally you need a star shaped pastry cutter.

First you have to seperate the eggyolk from the white of the egg because we only need the latter. What can you do with 6 eggyolks? I am sure the captain has a nice recipe for that.
Mix the egg white with the icing powder in a mixer until you have something solid. Yes, dd, I know what it looks like but this is not the appropriate time to play a prank.
Put a cup full of that material away because we need that later for the icing.
That material, we call it egg snow (directly translated), you mix with 500 grams of the almonds and the cinnamon. Put some more almonds on the table, put the pastry on it and roll it out until it is about 1 centimetre high. Put the rest of the egg snow on it.
Now you need a star shaped cutter to cut the stars out.
You can bake imediately, but it would be better if you let the stars dry a little bit which means for few hours.
Then heat the oven to 160°, celsius of course. You should bake them about 7 to 8 minutes. The stars should not become dark. If the are, you have baked them too long.
I have no idea if this really works as I prefer to buy the pastry in the supermarket.
My oven has only got 'hot' & 'hotter' - which should I use Fabs?
Males cooking!
This is great to see.
Why do you find that odd, IM?
All the best cooks & chefs are guys. The only reason we don't cook more is because we have womenfolk to do it for us.
Shocking really. The only male that ever tried cooking for me was my old flat mate, almost burnt the flat down !
Maybe because he was drunk? Hmmm.
Well it is a funny memory!
Have you read the Captain's cooking threads?Originally Posted by Ice Maiden

Dont be so rude Pooly. I am a dab hand in the ol' kitchen as it happens.
In fact Ice Maiden's joining the forum has reminded of a favourite dish of mine and tonight I shall be cooking Rack of lamb.
Nice recipe Fabian. Perfect for Christmas. I cant think what to do with 6 egg yolks though.
What made you think I have a clue about ovens? I just translated the recipe, that's all I know about that. But if you really want an answer, I would go for "hotter" and watch carefully. I the cookies are getting dark, it was to hot and has been too long.Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog

If this hangover is gone I will try to tranlate another recipe.
