    Fishing again... Koh Chang

Got a pass for the weekend with fishing being the excuse...

Straight to the boat when we landed on the island to sort out a few last minute things... Lovely boat.

There was a busy enough beer bar complex just down the road from the hotel where we took up residence both nights...

Set off dead early on the Saturday morning (once the skipper had managed to get some lazy feckers out of bed.. )... Stopped at skippers jungle hideaway to pick up fishing gear and beer...

    Speeding off to sea..

Here I am at the wheel...

Here I am cooking up breakfast....

    How to fish:

Discover that crabsticks can't be used for bait...

    Bringing in a big fucker...

    Have it.

Aa few different baits were experimented with... Sausage and bacon were nibbled off the hooks and somebody even used the silver paper from a fag packet and a piece of cardboard at one point...

Caught fuck all big but it was a good weekend... ...

Nice work mate! shame about coming in empty handed - did you have to stop in at the seafood markets on the way home

Dunno... This was just a mate with a boat - his 'fish finder' wasn't working so it was all guesswork...

Yep that sure does create a challenge.... did he have a plotter or anything onboard or totally blind?

    How deep??

With the crazy restrictions they have on charters in West Oz these days its not much different here... you pay an arm and a leg then have to share the one fish you caught with everyone else one the boat

Glad it was a mate so you did have to fork out too much... unless he's a big drinker of course

He was reading the lie of the land and the surface whirlypools to work out where the fish were hiding.

It was a good few fathoms deep.

He ran it at a loss after forking out for fuel and tackle... I think the prices are going up for the next trip..

Might do better if you spread your lines out a bit more or even get some outriggers for the boat. This will present a better picture to the fish below. Use to crew on a few boats in Hawaii, we always caught fish.

Next time try some spinning lures, preferably some shiny ones, and then just trawl them off the back of the boat. You should catch some Barracuda in no time. You probably would have had more luck with that can of Singha than a sausage!

Took the fishing tour in Phuket a few weeks ago, they just go about 10 miles south of Phukettown and troll around 6 lines with 5 lures shaped like squid on each. Nothing but Tuna, but once they started biting we caught a lot. Often two or three on on line, quite a fight for fish that were all about a foot long. Total about 50 Tuna, but the real fishing is in the deeper water off west of Phuket. The Thai boats were going out past the Similans at night and comming back with Sailfish and Mahi-Mahi saw them unloading them in the morning at Taplamau pier. If you want to eat, Rawai Beach has a lot of cheap seafood joints, had the Mackeral and they served it with a spicy dark red, smokey chilli dipping sauce that was just fantastic.

I fancy trying Krabi for fishing... I'll ask the skipper to chuck his boat over there.
