Decided to go to Ko Samet for a few days with SBF (Speccy Brace Face )....
Got a taxi along from Pattaya to Ban Phe near Rayong where all the boats leave from... We hadn't booked anything so was taken to the taxi drivers favourite agent at Ban Phe and was shown their list of options for accommodation...
I decided to avoid the busier beach called Sai Kaew which I was told was full of 'gypsies and backpacker scum' and opted instead for Vong Duan beach... Also booked a speedboat through the agent, thus avoiding contact with the gypsies and backpacker scum on the ferry...![]()
The speedboat looked like this one... And the beach looked like this one...
The accommodation was a beach hut at a place called 'Vong Duan Resort'....
The bed... That's the bed that is...
And the balcony... Very nice hut but a bit pricey at 3500 baht per night...
I was very happy to be relaxing on the island....
So... chilling on the lovely beach and hiring big inflatable turtles is what it's all about in the daytimes...
And the night time is about stuffing yourself with lots of great seafood and booze at one of the beachfront restuarants...
Found a nice spot for breakfast where you could have the water splashing around your feet as you ate during high tide...
We decided to try and be romantic one night and go in search of the sunset.... We were on the wrong side of the island for the sunset but on my travels I had seen a sign that simply said "sunset" with an arrow pointing away from the beach.... Luckily, the island is very thin where we were at so we didn't have to wander through the jungle tracks too far before we found the other side....
Plonked our arses on this rocky bit...
And were rewarded by this...
Then it was back to the beach hut for some more booze and a game of this.... (I lost 500 baht to SBF playing this)
On the last day we took an organised boat tour around the island which included the chance to catch some tiny fish and do a bit of snorkelling.... At the drop off point there was a stall selling fireworks... I had to buy some...
The problem with fireworks though is that you get all excited before it, spend a lot of money and then it's all over in seconds... (and I was trying to escape that Pattaya feeling... )
I'd recommend a visit for anybody that likes to relax in lovely surroundings.... And for anybody that likes to float around on big inflatable turtles...
