Scientific Name : Aix galericulata

General Characteristics : Is the medium sized bird with the body length of approximately 48 centimeters. In the breeding season, the male is very colorful which each color distinctively contrasts with other color and is very beautiful. The feathers of the wing is orange and very big which looks like the a panel on each side and very beautiful. The male of the Mandarin Duck has very beautiful feathers only during the breeding season which is the winter. When it is off-breeding season, the male will shed the feathers and look like the female.

Habitat / Food : Can be found in China, Japan, India, Myanmar, Thailand, and Taiwan.The Mandarin Duck eats water fern, shrimp feti, crab, fish, frog, tadpole, and insect.

Behavior / Mating : Lives near the swamp, and the marsh which covering with the trees for living and hiding itself. It clings on the branch and stays in a small troop near the water source. It can fly, walk, and swim very well.The Mandarin Duck lays 9 to 12 eggs each time. The eggs are shiny beige. The incubation period is 28 to 30 days.

Current Status : Is the bird that migrates to Thailand during the off-breeding season, can rarely be found, and has a small number. It can be found only in the North, and some part of the Central. According to the law, it is categorized as a protected wild animal according to Wild Animals Preservation and Protection Act B.E. 2535
