Scientific Name : Aythya baeri

General Characteristics : The hair on the outside wingtip is black. The area on the head and the neck of the male is greenish black. The eyes are white or red. The upper part of the body is blackish dark brown, the chest is dark brown, the area in front of the stomach is white, and the area at the back of the stomach is grey. The hair covering the area under the tail edge is white. The flank has reddish brown stripes. The female differs from the male in which the female has the darker color. The chest is darker reddish brown. The head and the neck is blackish brown. The eyes are brown.

Habitat / Food : Can be found in the east of Russia, the east of China, India, Myanmar, and Thailand.The Baer’s Pochard seeks for the food by diving or swimming. The food is fish, shrimp, aquatic animal, and the aquatic plant.

Behavior / Mating : Lives in the big water source; for example, swamp, and lake. It sometimes can be found in the mangrove swamp forest. It can be found alone or in a small troop. The Baer’s Pochard can fly very well and can fly very far. It is very good at swimming and diving. When there is an irritation or a danger, it will dive for a certain distance and then fly from the water. It seeks for the food in the nighttime. In the daytime, it will use most of the time taking a rest on the water surface.There is no report of nest building for laying the eggs of the Baer’s Pochard in Thailand.
