    An angry Kingfisher

so, the farmer next door put out a net to catch some birds to eat, but caught this beautiful Kingfisher instead

he brought it over for me to see before letting it go

when the net was opened it flashed away in a brilliant blue streak across the pond

This was a White Throated Kingfisher; they do not actually fish like most of their species but eat frogs and insects
    I have reported your post

Quite often see then around here ( Phuket)- mainly in neglected rubber plantations that have a pond or stream nearby .
A while ago when I was fishing a plantation pond there were a pair of then on a serious gecko / cicada hunt - they must have caught and eaten 20 in half an hour !!
    Beautiful birds !

I have a river at the bottom of my garden, overlooking open fields, There are a pair of Kingfishers living down stream, some early mornings in the summer I will go down there when I have finished a night shift and watch the sun come and have been lucky enough to see the birds diving for fish, a beautiful sight.

We also have had Swans and their Cygnets up on the bank, that really used to freak my dogs out, swans are big bastards when they rear up, open there wings and hiss at you, I have had Herons wading for fish, and had a family of 3 of them fly overhead once.

Then you get the Moorhens, ducks and other wild life associated with a healthy river and the fish are amazing, I once caught a Brown Trout, I had no idea what it was till a mate told me.
