    Thai Elephants & Their Paintings

    Thai Elephants & Their Paintings.

Ok these Thai elephants aren't going to win any prizes for their art work, nor will they be called in for renovating the Sistines Chapels ceiling when it needs a new coat of paint, but hell, they can paint better than me, well the artistic type of painting, I can do wood graining and marbling better than any elephant can, so they wont be taking work from me, also they aren't up there with say Leonardo da Vinci so he has nothing to worry about.

Anyway this is the thread to share those places in thailand that have elephants that can paint, ie the artistic elephants, although I wonder who was the first mahout to get an elephant to paint? Did he smack its trunk with a steel or wooden ruler as our teachers did if the painting wasn't up to scratch? Do elephants find it calming painting? Or would they rather be down by the river covering themselves in dirt and crap before going for a swim?

These photos were taken down at Nong Nooch Botanical Gardens, this is about 15kms from Pattaya just off of Sukhumvit Road going towards Sattahip.
Here they do their paintings during the cultural show at Nong Nooch, this costs extra but is probably the best cultural show in Pattaya and maybe even better than the Bangkok ones.

Bit presumptuous there DD. They might be excellent at it but just do the arty stuff in their spare time.

Saw that kind of stuff somewhere out of Chiang Rai. Some of the paintings fetch good prices and there was an art gallery showing the works of Van Phant and Remphant et al.
Will scout around for some pics.
They also play football - some showing more talent than the English team, methinks.

With the seasonal rains coming to an end in Thailand, The Elephant Art Gallery is excited to announce that the elephant artists will have greater freedom to create masterpieces in dry weather.

After enduring months of regular rainfall, sometimes at long intervals due to extended torrential downpours, the artists at the conservation center are reportedly excited to enjoy the creative opportunities drier weather is providing.

The artists, who paint out in the open, will now be able to allow the sun to dry their works of art without fear of rainfall ruining the paintings.
