I know William, so sad. You should not expect to get Som Tam though, too much work and difficult to get the ingredients. So they just give you stuff from a packet sprinkled on the meat/fish/prawn whatever, so shit

I even had packet peas in a green curry, substituting for the little aubergine thingies.
    I have reported your post

Thanks for the concern, an unfortunate 3 day binge co-inciding with a Wales rugby victory, some good friends going back to blighty and a short holiday from work.
Right as rain now, time to turn a leaf.

In fact i once knew some Aussies who worked on the rigs off Singapore. They'd often pig out, get themselves checked into hospital for a glucose drip feed (only a couple of thousand for the night in a private room) and carry on the next day.
True story, not overly becoming for grown men mind you.

Its probably the regional dish of Isaan, but not commonly available West or South of BKK. Papaya Isn't commonly available in the UK, apart from in Thai supermarkets which charge a fortune for it. Carrot is the usual substitute.

I believe the chemical myth started long ago when their was no refridgeration in upcountry stores. Thus beer would be kept at 40 degrees for months at a time. Its did make sense to put a preservative in it. But I really dont know. Singh was the only one I have heard of personally with that reputation.

I've heard people say that about Chang too , ie: the formaldehyde.

Ever drunk Master Blend ? - that stuff is the pits - 2 shots = headache the next day.

Master Blend - not even whisky , just 'blended spirit' - I reckon this shite would be illegal back home.

it seems that various chemicals are added to beers for various reasons , ie: foaming agents etc...

here's some stuff I found out about Miller lite beer......

**you may be interested to know that Miller Lite contains propylene glycol alginate, water, barley malt, corn syrup, chemically modified hop extracts, yeast, amyloglucosidase, carbon dioxide, papain enzyme, liquid sugar, potassium metabisulfite, and Emka-malt, whatever that is. I would venture to say that light beers as a class tend to have more additives than others, simply because they'd be totally flat and tasteless otherwise. ***

yeah well, that is US beer for pooves. what would you expect?

actually, it is horrendous. That is why many beer companies make the claim that their product contains no additives

Recent article in the Bangers Post had the head brewer of Boon Rawd brewery categorically denying that formaldehyde had ever been used in Thai beers. It is in fact an urban legend that you can win beers over.

he's hardly going to admit it though is he..

There must be some kind of shit in the Thai beers - it's obvious.

Or some flaw in the manufacturing process.

I have been trying unsuccessfully to find an article written by someone who worked in the industry.
He stated that formaldahyde was used in the canning process and so some residue was inevitable.
If I ever find that article I will post

They actually make quite a bit. Most of the quality steel pipe, tube and chain come frm here. They make very good quality clothing and textiles. Not that they would, or could sell it here. Thais don't give a rat's ass about quality even when they can afford it.
Quality in Thailand Does not sell.
