    Beer.

I know that this should have been posted in the Food and Drink forum but I want answers and I want 'em pronto.
Can someone dispell this silly myth about English dishwater?

Some folks will have you believe that English beers are the business when in fact they are nothing more than ullage. Surely if you are going to quench your thirst you will want a chilled refreshing beer like Victoria Bitter rather than some warm, insipid, grey water that is labelled with names like 'Old Speckled Hen' or some such.

What is your beer of choice?

    Only serious respondees please.

Been thinkin' about that lately after having one fo those OSH things. Bit thin it was. I prefer my beer to have body. Think a container of some decent brew is just what this country needs to bring into the first world.
Amerian craft brews every one of 'em; Lagunitas Pale Ale, Not quite as bitter as an IPA but a good hop flavor. Full sail Amber Ale Rich with a caramel color; mellow malt flavor light hop finish. My favorite; made by the great brew pub in Hayward California, Buffalo Bills; Tazmanian Devil's Ale. 6.5% alc. dark, rich coffee color with strong malt & hops flavor. Full-bodied like a porter or a nut brown but a bit more of a clean, bitter finish. Drink that until I fall off the stool, I can.
Had a couple of brews about five years back in some german brewhaus off Suk. went back a year later the place was gone. Other than that haven't had decent beer here.

If some people think lager is good beer, then no one is going to remove their ignorance. OSH is simply the best beer in Thailand, even though it should be a cask ale, rather than a keg ale. You can't ship beer 6,000 miles in a cask, so we have to make do with having it in a keg. I usually drink Guinness as it doesn't fuck me up like OSH does.

Guiness and OSH both; beautiful beers to behold. But The flavor is thin, watery, disappointing in that they lack the fullness of a robust ale. Nut browns are wonderful things but after more than two or three and they tend to coat the mouth and leave an aftertaste. Noting can beat the refreshing taste of a decent bitter pale ale, no one could mistake one for a lager.
OSH may well be the best beer in Thailand. Much nicer than Guiness for sure. But then, being the best beer in Thailand is much like being the best looking man in a convent.

    What does OSH stand for?

Is it like Guiness? If so then I wont even try. If not tell me where the best place is to buy a pint and I will try it on my next visit.

I think that OSH is Old Speckled Hen MeMock. A decidedly dour way of quenching a thirst.

btw, I have a hangover that you could hang on a clothes line.

Old Speckled Hen It's an amber color witha a nice creamy head beautiful n the glass. In flavor it is very much like Guiness. Given a choice I would take it over Guiness. Given a true choice I'd pass on both.

I have ice in my beer here. It would be regarded as sacrilege in Aus.

    "half obh and halg change"

Sometimes he'll drink half OSH and half Chang too.

I presume you've either never had guinness or you've no sense of taste. OSH is an Ale, Guinness is a Stout. They taste nothing like each other. It's like saying coffee tastes like green tea.

Marmers has given me bottles of both Speckled Hen and Ruddles, they are both far superior to mainstream American beer, better known as yellow water.

LoL, piss weak and colder than the Arctic (sp?).....mmmm yummy

Other than that John Coopers Red stuff I found the beer in Oz to be quite poor (give me a good Pils, Holsten, Kalternberg etc.).

I am off beer now for a while.

I used to buy four slabs of Stella on friday night for me and my mates before we went out stick them in the living room fridge for when we got back drink them then hit the vodka until sunday morning.

I think it was the cocaine and ecstasy that kept us going though.

Leo's fairly foul if you ask me - it's Thai for a start.

Old Speckled Hen - that's just drunk by old men back in England as it's cheap.

I'm a bit of a lager boy myself - would rate Stella quite highly (French) but I'd give Carling Black Label a good rank in the English lager league.

Westons strong farmhouse draught cider is good stuff - doubt you get it in Los though - more of a West Country thing really (ie: SW of England)
