And maybe some money for the Abbott.
Talking about Abbots there's a huge shindig today for the funeral of the Abbot of Wat Chedi Luang in Chiang Mai. I assume he's already dead. Every road around my house is blocked by police and army, took me two hours to get to work today instead of the normal 20 minutes. They didn't bother telling anybody the roads were blocked, they let people drive all the way down and then tell them to turn around. Try doing that with 200 cars behind you.

They've going to have a huge military parade in the temple followed by a cop parade, the Crown Princess will be arriving later today. The temple courtyard is filled with gold, silver, and jewelled stuff brought out for the special occasion and they have an enormous carved and gilded platform to burn his body on. Wasn't there something in Buddhism about materialism, display, and illusion? Must have been some other Buddhism, I guess.

BTW, if anybody's in the area today there should be some great photo opportunities, it does look pretty spectacular.

It's not all hip-hop and smoking, you know. Don't forget all the hanging around in mobile-phone shops and playing online games in internet shops.

ye I used to watch them opposite the Kosa hotel in khon khen going into the big store up to the 3rd. floor i think and buying all kinds of stuff. There would be 8 or 9, 10 all walking in a line out of the store rapping on their mobile phones ,,carrying their new laptops and all sorts of gear. Seen them riding around in taxis also. Ye these guys aren't short of a baht or 1,000.

That shit has happened since the Buda went religion and found out they can milk the public of money for blessing a house, car,. mocy, or what ever,, sell talismans and amulets that supposed to contain holy powers when there is supposed to be no Deity in the Buddhist way of believing, but strictly a way of life and personal serenity.
In fact, If you drop the word GOD from AA lit. the 12 step program of Alcoholics is closer to the original Buddhism than Buddhist of todays Buddhism are..

    They are cheaper.

Traditionally they are sold duty free unlike normal envelopes. It's because they brought 'sick buffalo' revenue to the Nations coffers.

They tax is currently under review as the email has taken over.
