Bobcock at Wat Yai Chaimongkon, Ayutthaya

This was a trip I took just before the floods. I realised I hadn't ever been up this way witth my decent camera, so we took a day trip to visit several temples there and of course to have lunch on the river.

This temple was constructed during the reign of King U-Thong, the temple features a large reclining Buddha in saffron robes in its own ruined wiharn, and, most spectacularly, a huge chedi swathed in golden cloth set in a courtyard which is lined by Buddha images all wearing saffron robes.

The temple is located off the main island of Ayutthaya on the Bang Pa-In Road.

People pay to have an ornage robe draped over the buddah. I guess at night, they take them off, wash them and leave the poor bugger to freeze so that he needs people to buy them again tomorrow.

I love the long rows of Buddah's, I'd love to be able to climb up onto them and get the shot I really want....one day....

Behind the temple is there an additional shrine to King Naresuan. It seems he had a love of cock fighting so as usual in their over obsequious way they put cocks everywhere. Some as big as 7 foot high. I remember something similar outside a Sex Shop in Amsterdam many years ago............
