After my recent trip to Phrae, where I was inviting people out for lunch and stuff, my finances were depleted, so I had to venture to my bank in Nan, once again.
A bundle of cash in my hand, my spirits were elevated, and I went to treat myself in the poshest hotel in town, the Devaraj:
There is an atrium with a coffeshop:
I decided to go for the 59bt lunch buffet in their air-con restaurant, a variety of curries, salads and sweets. The price includes water and tea or coffee:
More not so exciting pics from rural life.
At the rice mill, where the grain is dehusked:
First you empty your sack of rice into the feed for the machine:
Then the thumping and rotating machine will set to work:
The "lam", ground skin is seperated:
Enough for raising a few chickens and pigs:
We collect ours for the ducks and fish.
Finally, the polished grains appear, left the whole ones, right the broken bits - the ducks will be delighted.
Leftovers and uncollected by-products is what these feed on:
King of the yard:
Curious if the farang has brought some food for them:
very nice thread stoller, even with the phone your pix came out great.
Nice introduction to another side of Thailand I've yet to visit. Furthest north I've been is somewhere between P-look and Udittarit.. to a very nice park in the middle of the Nan river I think it was.
A greenie for your efforts

excellent thread BTW...this is what I really enjoy when I come through the TD...
Thanks for the feedback, folks. And fekk off, Klongy, I am not prejudiced against Smeg, ceburat or anyone else on this forum.
Yet another "celebration", the planting of soy-beans is finished, my yaba-addicted cousin-in-law being the last one, as usual, and trying to borrow money from me, unsuccessfully, as usual, I know what them addicts are are all all about!
Yeh, I can be a cruel bastard at times, but I donated some pot-gin and some fish to the party:
Meanwhile, some delicaies are being preperad, such as Saa:

Stroll's place is well worth visiting if he'll let you.

Yeah, that sounds like the place. It was basically closed, at least the pool was. Really nice gardens to wander in and I recall seeing a very neat Thai style teak house across the river.
Travel by raft to and from the little park. A really pleasant day out in wherever-the-flock-I-was.
I've no idea what town/village I was in.

Yes, in fact I had to close one eye so I wouldn't see 2 computer screens after I came home from the party. I completely misunderstood your comment, Klongy.Originally Posted by RandomChances

But I just wanna say, if a Chinese man went to live in deepest Somerset, UK, then posted hundreds of photos of the locals growing potatos, he'd be a nutter

It's obviously because I am one of the Thaiophile losers here...
The soybean fields are vibrant green:
The mountains consist of Limestone formations, where many a cave may be found.
Through a bamboo forest to Tam Pa Luk cave:
There's a hut with a Buddha statue:
The resident monk blessing wooden sticks before they get boiled in water for medicine:
Entrance to the cave:
There's a 'bridge' leading further:
I wasn't allowed to proceed into the bowels of the earth, since the old wooden ladder might collapse under the weight of the fat farang...
