Not sure if this should be here or in the food section, but the traveller in Nan province may have a rest here, Puen Muang restaurant, just befor Viang Sah, coming from Nan:

    It's by the riverside:

This is not Nan river, just a klong nearby.
    View from the res:

Inside the place, just 2 local cops idling the afternoon away (not in the pic):

The reason I mentioned the cops, is that they waved my over to join them.
They had eaten already and finished a bottle of Saeng Som, before my Laag Dip with veges and sticky rice arrived:

Well, I was blotto when I left a few hours later, not after one of the officers enquired whether I had a driving license and if my papers were up to date.

I thought I'd to the honorable thing and check the bill for the table, but surprise, the cops had settled the bill already!

Your shirt must've impressed them. Maybe they thought you were some sort of gay icon?

You're starting to get on my tits with your one-liners, Marmite.

They were just happy to meet such a well-behaved, Thai-speaking farang, never mind the bleached-out tie-dye I was sporting.

I'll take care of 'em whenever they'll turn up around where I live.

Ok, that's Marmite banned from Issues, for mocking a mod and questioning authority.

Wat Phumin, in Nan town center:

This 16th century temple is very unusual (for Thailand), as it uses a cross-form architecture with the Buddha images facing in four directions.

    Nam Haing Restaurant, Nanoi district:

It opens sometime late afternoon, and will close when all customers are gone, usually 8-9pm.

The last bit of road is, eh, rough, so better get there in daylight. You may enjoy a fabulous sunset as well:

The res is right at the river bank, with an integrated fish farm. In fact, fish is what is served there.

It doesn't come any fresher than this.

    Entertainment is provided:

Just for DD, I inspected the toilets: they are, well, - Thai.

    Cashier's office:

This may all look very provincial, and it is.
But the food is excellent, and a very enjoyable evening out at 438bt for four.

Yam Foo is often made from Pla Duk skin, shredded, deep-fried and served with onions, peanuts, lime, Koriander leave et al:

Very tasty indeed, but you have to consume it quickly, it's either very good, while crispy, or abyssmal when gone soggy.

Nope, that's Yam Pla Duk Foo

Made from filleted fish and crispy fried.
Sometimes they will remove all the skin but it is made from the flesh not the skin

To be honest , Stroll, that Yam Pladuk Foo doesn't look very nice

Next time you are in Phrae I'll take you somewhere that does it good and the yam bit is served separate so that it doesn't go soggy.

Order tom yam nam kon for a dash of condensed milk in the soup, the picture is misleading, it didn't look as white as this.

Btw, a few pics on this page and the last haven't loaded, I'll try to correct this with someone's help later.
