Terry and the Basket Weaver tour the Golden Triangle

I traveled to Chiang Rai in February 2008 to meet up with the Basket Weaver and over the next few days we biked around the Golden Triangle covering Doi Tung, Mae Sai, Chiang Saen, Mae Chan and Sop Ruak.

We will kick it off with a visit to the kings mother royal villa and the Mae Fah Luang Arboretum at the top of Doi Tung mountain.

It was a brilliant few days, we covered a lot of territory, seen some nice sights, generally had a nice time and I recommend that you make an effort to see this part of Thailand.

The area is made for motorcycle touring with good quality roads and fairly sensible drivers, but one must be careful on Doi Tung mountain as there are many switch back corners with some very steep section.

Ride sensibly and you will be OK but dont under estimate this mountain as one could come unstuck within a flash and this nearly happened to myself on a previous ride.

These lovely girls just added to the enjoyment.

Terry's a friendly fella who loves to take photos of random stunner's and I didn't here any complaints from the Weaver.

I'm a very soft fella with extremely delicate feelings, hence my love of taking pictures of flowers.

Doi Tung runs along the Myanmar border and there is a considerable army presence up here.

ahhh I was waiting to see how that photo turned out. Nice. Very fashionable scarves around their necks but it wasn't that cold up there, im guessing around 20.

Yes, the road going up to the top is very good, wide shoulders and nice curves, perfect for biking. As long as you don't get stuck behind a slow truck because it is hard to overtake without exposing yourself in the other lane. But I think we had a good run up for a saturday, considering it is normally packed with Thai tourists.

We were on the road going from doi tung to mai sai, and terry was taking a piss as usual when this guy rode past and abused me in German or something (presumably for standing near the middle of the road) and threw something at terry before riding off.

We were going to chase him and beat him up but he was too quick. Anyway I got a photo of his numberplate ill trace the sly bugger and report him maybe.
