Today we visited Fashion Island, it's the mall I taught at for 15 years. Other than being freezing cold inside, I was amazed over how much the place has changed.
The first thing that spotted my eye was corduroy shirts. I've never seen these in Thailand and thought of TC.
Back when I lived in winter weather, this is what I used as a jacket when out and about on my horse during winter. The shirts were nice and thick....and only 260B. I'd say that would be a bargain for you guys that live up north.
To contrast this, on the other side were the Song Kran/Hawaiian shirts...
We had lunch with the sister in law and our nieces, then it was off to Tops Supermarket.
I was shocked over the selection, lamb burgers and nice looking sausage rolls along with Thai Wagyu beef that looked pretty tasty for the price.
Again, does the excitement ever really end? Now the wife is suffering from whatever I had, sharing is caring.
"I was a good student. I comprehend very well, OK, better than I think almost anybody," - President Trump comparing his legal knowledge to a Federal judge.
We went to Rallis to order our family feast for this evening, I was rather chuffed that the owner not only remembered the wife and I, but the review I did here years ago. My first time back in four years. The place looks the same...
He's now in 3 spots in Bangkok, the mothership on Hua Mark Soi 10, and on Thonglor and Asoke. Business is booming for him, he when they first opened, the demographic was 70% foreigner to 30% Thai and now that's basically swapped. Between the home resto and Thonglor, they're expect 300+ plates tonight plus catering.
That's amazing.they must be making a motza.. good on them
^^
Alex was on about franchising last time i spoke to him.
food is still great and the prices have settled, and very handy fixture on the manor
Well, it's been several days, I've basically done nothing. The wife and nieces have gone out shopping in the afternoons, but I've simply had no motivation to go out. I've been quite happy sitting around, watching TV and having a cold beer or two. However, today we plan to venture forth and head downtown. We're not sure where, I'm sure though it will involve a mall.
I had a colleague who was like that. She was probably 4'10" or thereabouts. I don't know her shoe size but she also usually bought shoes from the kids' section. (oddly though, her boobage was a bit generous, considering her height. More generous than mine are, proportional-wise. Lol. She's of medium built/ BMI.)
Safe travels, Mr & Mrs Topper. Don't forget to register for e-travel (arrival) and save the QR code. Sometimes they don't check (as reported by others) but it's better to do it prior to your flight.
For entry to PH (arrival), it's for everyone. It replaces the paper-based arrival card (which everyone also had to do, pre-covid).
For exiting PH, only PH passport holders need the e-travel departure registration. (again, also replaces the paper departure card that we Filipinos had to fill out)
one advantage with paying the exit clearance (at NAIA anyway) is that it allows you to skip the line queuing in immigration.
I always just pay at the booth which is in front of the aircrew's immigration lane, and then also use the aircrew lane, which is nearly always empty.
@joe & @helge - I'm not overflowing up there but so far, I've had no complaints! At least people look at my eyes when they meet or speak to me. Lol.
@topper - re: the exit clearance fee, how much was it? Didn't you travel to BKK earlier last year? Has it been 6 months from that? AFAIK exit clearance is only needed if you've stayed longer than 6 months in PH. Also, I think yours (as a PR) is different from ordinary tourists. There's exit clearance A & B, forgot which is for tourists & which is for PRs.
Exit clearance is just another way for PH to generate fees. Heh.

On another note, in my hometown we were able to get a "Christmas gift" from the govt/ barangay, which was 3 kg rice. Village officials went around, giving "coupons" - one coupon per household. I redeemed the coupons from the village/ barangay hall.
My mom, as a senior citizen, got additional stuff as a senior - another 3 kg rice + a "spaghetti pack" (1 kg pasta + 1 pack tomato sauce). We accepted all of them since they came from taxpayers' money. At least I was able to get some returns from my taxes!
^I'm 5'2" or 157 cm. I'm a little bit above the average Filipina (which is 5' or 5'1", last time I checked). My mom is 5' so I'm glad that I got to be taller than her (I had better nutrition during childhood - kudos to her.)
I thought that with the improvement in science & nutrition, Filipinos would be taller now, esp Millenials & Gen Z. (Btw after Gen Zee comes Gen Alpha). But when I am in a crowd (church, mall, village hall, etc) I find that I am still taller than many of the adult Filipinas. Mom & I have discussed it and we attribute it mostly to nutrition. Majority of Filipinos are still poor and don't get sufficient nutrients while growing up. This is more pronounced in the smaller islands. (from what I've seen.)

@topper - enjoy your remaining days in BKK and safe travels.
