Thread: Getting High With Lulu... A Trip To The Top Of Thailand.

Thought I'd pop her cherry with a ride to the top of Thailand. Doi Inthanon. The highest point in the kingdom at 2,565 meters, located in the Shan Hills of Chiang Mai.

Nice n twisty.

Easy run out along the 108 before turning onto the 1009 for the final 50km or so through Doi Inthanon National Park and up to the summit.




Before quickly taking a detour left to Mae Ya Waterfall around 13 km in.





There be mist in dem there hills.

Unfortunately the herder wasn't asleep or drunk in the ditch, so I couldn't nick one.

And there she is, in the upper left, the mighty Mae Ya Waterfall.



Buggered if I'm walking up there, as impressively sized as it was, so turn around to be buggered by the National Park ticket woma, demon instead.

Nice trip. Avoid going into the caves. Rumor has it could be a problem.

Up we go, just before getting to the extortion of foreigner's check point.





Food and temples, yup, that's why I'm here.

30 baht for somchais, or free, going by the fookers flying past as I was being rooted in the office.


Hand over me two 5 yr licenses, with a nice smile and bit of banter in me finest Thai, to be told (correctly) that National Parks don't discount expats with driving licenses anymore.

5 minutes of jumping up and down, shouting and throwing things, I was 320 baht lighter and on me way.







Glacial water, presumably, given the fookin' arctic conditions up at the top.

Getting a wee bit nippy to say the least.







Can turn left to go to the TNO, or just to scare the bejaysus out of any Thais with you. Tiz a bit creepy.





She's seen better days, to be fair.

That's more than a mile high. The urge would be strong for me. It must have been unbearable for you, Luigi. Surely your trip report has a bit more to be told.

Thanks for the pics, Luigi. If you went 3 weeks before, you could've seen me walk past the Chang Puak gate several times. Didn't go to Inthanon due to weather, so it's nice to see what's there (though I did look at some Inthanon vids on YouTube). Went to Bua Tong to see and climb the waterfalls instead. Cheers!

Bike's okay, bit down on power, but light n zippy. 12k rpm redline, nice for the hills.

That's the key. Around these parts you do not need a 750cc or bigger moto. I remember I rented a Yam R6 down by Krabi area. Went for a spin. It was fun but a lot of work and far to many unknowns to contend with. I had an R1 in the states and sold it before I moved here. I like messing around on the little cc bikes and if you should take a header its not a big cash loss versus a 850,000 baht big cc bike and chances are on the big cc moto you were carrying some serious speed.

The Kawi 400 appears to be a nice ride albeit it remains a twin. I do wish they would make a 400 4 cyl moto. Just smoother to ride.

Can't help think back to the inline 4 CBR400's etc. Think one version had a 19k redline.

Was thinking of buying one here a few years ago as a kind of project, but a 25 yr old bike that was built to be revved and rode hard, imported into Thailand and subject to Thai mechanics and maintenance, possibly on a gray book, and no real easy supply of genuine parts, it just wasn't worth the headache of being an endless project.

They are good at putting lipstick on them though.

A 1992 CBR400 done up as a CBR1000.
