It was probably Earl.
Did he have one of those rehydration hoses in his mouth and no backpack?
Barry, ahhhh, Audax rides .... I was thinking that when ya mentioned the 325 and the 200s. Got into it for awhile in Canada as we got free airfare if we qualified for the Paris Breast Paris. I did a few 200s and then a 300and then I said you guys are insane. Continued touring but gave up on the free trip to Paris.
Nine years ago did Europe from Portugal to Istanbul, then flew over the weird countries and continued here. Did Bkk to Luang Prabaung and back and was planning on going south Malaysia, Singapore, blah blah, Australia, but ended up just circling Isaan a few times and then decided to stay here. Which is my weird story about how I ended up here. Continued touring here on school holidays, unfortunately I then discovered motorcycle touring and well the bicycle is dusty now.
Did all my touring on a Ritchey Ascent Pro comp, totally thrilled with the bicycle even after 29 years....
Two years ago last July I had a special custom bike built in San Francisco; a Surly World Troller, featuring a Rohlof 14 speed gear hub and a Gates belt drive setup.
I rode from San Francisco through Napa valley and up to Mendicino. Then followed the coast highway back down to Santa Barbara.
Somewhere near Big Sur
California has some mighty spectacular hills which go for on and on and on...
Good Job, barrylad. That is some crazy distances. Look forward to more pics. An avid cyclist myself. Did 200kms in Quebec, Canada a few summers ago. Plan to do more this summer. Love the cycling pics from all.
Last year in March I took the same bike to France.
Started in Bordeaux, then rode around through northern Spain, Asturias and Galicia, to Santiago de Compostela, then followed the Camino Frances backwards back to France and Bordeaux.
That was big one close to 3000 kms and six weeks on the road.
and really fantastic eating and drinking!
The cider in Asturias was something to remember
^
You da man Earl.
Incredible stuff right there.
There's a global traveler guy who put over 60k miles on a Brompton. very capable little bikes. super fold, and a pretty nice speedy ride on flat surfaces.
What got me were the tiny 16" tyres pumped to 110psi which rode kinda hard on uneven surfaces like canal paths and cobble stone city streets.
But for multi-modal transport like in BKK with the BTS and MRT nothing could b better!
I bought mine in BKK, there are several dealers, and you see other Thai folks on them quite often.
Top pics Earl
There is a monster climb heading south on 101 near Big Sur. It is the biggest climb between Canada and Mexico. If I ever do that route again I will be feigning a dodgy sprocket and sticking my thumb out for a pick-up truck.
Got my top speed coming down the other side 51.5 mph on a converted road racer with tiny brakes and weighing in at 97 american pounds with luggage and there were no helmets in them days!

Awful man likes to keep in shape 'for sex'
07-01-18
A COMPLETELY awful man likes to tell people that his frequent visits to the gym make him better at sex.
Appalling narcissist Martin Bishop is delighted to have found a way to show off about his physical fitness and sexual prowess simultaneously.
Sales executive Bishop said: “I told everyone at work that ‘pumping iron’ keeps me in great shape for a different kind of ‘pumping’. They were so impressed they went completely silent.
“My regime of weights, distance running and high-intensity interval training means I can hammer away at vaginas for hours. I’m exactly the sort of virile yet sensitive lover the ladies are gagging for.
“Yes, I do frequently talk about my amazing sexual stamina but it’s not showing off. I’m just highlighting the benefits of exercise and doing my bit for the national obesity epidemic.”
Co-worker Tom Logan said: “It’s horrible when Martin tells you about his marathon sex sessions and all the athletic positions he can do, particularly if you’re eating a sausage roll.
“I don’t care if doing 100 squat thrusts a day has given him ‘incredible erectile strength’. No one needs to know that.”
Bishop is currently single after telling his girlfriend that a romantic weekend in the Cotswolds was “a better cardio workout than two days of Tough Mudder training
That's why you want to get fit?
^ turmeric and sprouts are on this weeks shopping list
^The guy in the article is one of those guys that 'groans' at every small lift they make to try to make themselves look stronger than all the other guys and girls in the gym.
Good luck, dill. I'll soon need to add to my daily workout thread.
I hope not.....Shes up North

Somewhere in France a certain Mr Slap could no longer resist the lure of the ubiquitous 'bar-tabac'
Touring the windswept flatlands of Flanders...
Before chugging down an unsociable amount of regional lager beer
^ That picture doesn't require rotating, I was in the process of passing out when I took it.
The Scottish Borders, en route to John O' Groats from Land's End.
Looking at doing coast to coast, from Whitehaven to Whitley Bay this year.
^That's really beautiful. Lucky it isn't raining yet..hehe.
Great photos everyone!
Earl - Lucky to be biking in France.
I found some pics on my computer from my bike ride in Quebec a few years ago. Went with my bestie. The trail used to be a railway line which they made into a trail, some paved and some gravel. They had stops for food/drink along the way in old railway stations. 200kms one way. We had to take a shuttle bus to the end of the trail and biked back to the car. Flat trail for the most part. Rained one day that was uphill some. Thankfully we had ponchos.. Stopped in a few hotels along the way. Made a day trip to Mont Tremblant which is famous for skiing in the winter. Did the chairlift up and did hiking at the top.
This is about the trail if anyone is interested. P?tit train du Nord ? GoBiking.ca
Stayed overnight here in Mt. Tremblant - great food and beer
From the top of Mont Tremblant - crazy ski hill
