    Ayutthaya A Boat Trip.

Well this weekend we had a little boat trip round the Island of Ayutthaya and also got to see the other Islands.

The boats are probably the best way to go round the Island and I think work out to about 300baht per hour, but this is money well spent as you can go into the attractions that would normally charge for free as they got nobody checking who comes in from the river, defineately reccommend the Elephant Kraal

Anyway Ken May arranged everything and off we went to the Chinese market off of U Thong Road, thehave also got a nice Chinese Temple there but that can go in a differant thread.

A word of warning, do not allow crazy Welsh men to go with you on these boats, they seem to have no fear of capsizing these tiny little boats on the swollen rivers of Ayutthaya and leaving you to drown, nope you don't get life jackets but we are well hard

I got to admit it didn't start off so good when we first pushed off and the engine hadn't been started and we drifted off down stream and crashed into another boat that was zooming along, still the drivers didn't seem to mind so I assume it is quite normal to crash into other boats, after that we was off.

It's actually nice and cool down on the river with a good breeze so it is a good place to get away from the heat and is also a good way to see parts of Ayutthaya that you would not normally get the chance to see, a lot of the houses have started to be flooded out and as the rainy season continues it will probably get worse, Yep, Ken will be Kayaking to school again this year

First off we donethe whole round trip round the Island and then hit the Elephant Kraal, next we started going up some of the Klongs, these were filled up with wild killer snakes and Monitor Lizards, they weren't scared of us I should add, luckily the locals have eaten all the crocodiles that used to hang round these parts so our boat was relatively safe.

    Our driver for the day.

    One of the Boats.

These buggers had no respect and zoomed along trying to drown people on the small boats.

    A period of calm.

    Seconded.

When I stayed in Ayutthaya we had a room with a wonderful view overlooking the river but I missed out on the boat trip somehow.

If you go there give Ken May a pm as he knows all the places you pass and that, don't forget to buy him a few beers though, defineately worth a trip though, I got to admit I had never thought of going to Ayutthaya as most trips are just day trips so you think it is just a waste of time, but it is actually worth spending a few days there as it does have a lot of interesting stuff, ok it is real easy to get Templed out, but it does have other stuff aswell.

The Chinese Market reference isn't clear. Can you be more specific please? I'm fairly familiar with Ayutthaya and UThong, but a more specific location would be helpful. Thanks!

The OP died 6 years ago and the last post is from 11+ years ago. Not much chance of an update.

Thankfully there were no Welsh people involved.

Helpful link. Thanks. But, wow!, 800 baht a head seems on the high side. Maybe I should wait in the car and let Mrs. Fingers do the negotiating. Works pretty good most of the time!

^took the boat trip in 2013, it was very nice. If you're staying in Ayutthaya, do the boat trip during late afternoon so that there's a cool breeze. I think the cost was 200 B/pax. I arranged it via my guesthouse. We were 6 ppl in the boat, from different guesthouses. We were picked up from our GHs then brought to the port. The boat stops at different temples along the way so ppl can take pics. Very relaxing & a great way to see the city.
