The Chao Phraya River in pictures

If the Grand Palace is the heart and Thailand's Buddhist religion the soul then the life blood the main artery has to be without doubt the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok.

Bangkok is the Venice of the East !

Hop on and off the boat with an all day ticket , a quick and inexpensive way to see the sights.

The endless trains of barges being tugged steadily along the mighty Chao Phraya.

Some interesting sights along the river and well worth a day trip or better still a week because there is that much to see and do.

The long tail boats were about 800 baht for an hour.

The Hop on, hop off tourist boat was 200 baht a day.

Or you can travel like the locals on the river bus boats for 10 baht.

I agree about the convenience, low costs, nice views and alternative ease which gets you away from traffic and opens up the city and its surroundings in a nice way....

Just take care and don't let any of that muck splash down your gob or in your eye.

Chao Phraya sludge can put you down for a month - easy.

Saw a couple of monitor lizards and plenty of fish even though the water was a chocolate colour.

If you zoom in you can see a btl of Black Label on one of the balconies in one of those pics.

The little green building there with 3 boats in front of it.

This building inspires confidence in Thailand's "Nuclear Medicine research", taken on the Chao Phraya river..
