A flying visit to Chiang Mai

Last weekend i visited Chiang Mai, the excuse was a game of cricket... Green Parrots - city boys vs country boys. (ie BKK vs CM)

And i didn't realise it, but my galfriend had never visited Chiang Mai before. So we also had to do the tourist thing for a bit....
this is the moat and part of the old wall surronding CM

    visit some temples

    and more temples

got tricked into the cultural dinner and dance crap... but the girls liked it so the guys had to shut up and stop being cynics even if the beers were 130 baht for a small bottle and the water 50 baht.... after paying 700 baht for boring crap food....

fortunately we got to play some cricket...this was at the Prem centre, very nice and the cricket gods were kind to us and we didnt get any rain.

35 overs each - we batted first and posted a modest total of 146

the CM team won with 2 wickets to spare.... but credit goes to the 2 thai boys who batted last, they even hit a six, fortunately not off me!

fortunately i also found some time for a bit of golf...thats yous truly, not bad for a 64 year old fella

this is "she whom must be obeyed"... a little shy i guess.

this caddy is not as pretty as the ones i'm used to, but this was a good thing since i was not on my own...

then some more touristy stuff, off to the top of Doi Suthep mountain to pray and take piccies of the view of CM

and that was more or less that...

CM - nice place. wouldnt wanna live there tho.

sorry to those who would have wanted to meet up, it was a quick visit and with AFL friday night, cricket game Sat, watch da rugby game Sat nite and then golf on sunday didnt have any spare time at all.....

    next time!

No, I went to Doi Sethep plus half a dozen temples in CM and that was enough cultural stuff for me.

Golf in Thailand is great, most courses are immaculate and relatively cheap. The only problem is that (sweeping generalization) most Asians have no idea or care about traditional golf ettiquite (sp?) noise, slow play, walk on ur line on the green etc....

but if u dont worry about that u can have a great day!

Well, I like the dance shows. No where near as exciting as cricket of course.
Khum Khontoke may be better than the Cultural Center. Not where you go for bargain food and drink though.

certainly not bargain priced, cheeky gits charged us 50baht for a small bottle of water each.

but as i mentioned before the girls liked it, so it was fair enough then.
