It was years ago now but looking through my pics I can now remember it like it was yesterday. My galfriend and I decided to get the overnight train from Bangers up to Nong Khai to have an explore of northern Thailand. I have always considered train travel in Thailand to be a fantastic way to get around the country and I was really impressed by this particular journey. The food in the buffet car was excellent which was quite a surprise and certainly a far cry from what is offered on British Rail. During our journey a monk was arrested for drinking alcohol in public which was a bit embarrassing as it was me he was drinking with and me who kept topping up his glass. He was an interesting chap and spoke half decent English but alas he was breaking the law and bringing the monkhood into disrepute. Anyway we all got questioned about what had happened and for a while there I thought that I was going to be in trouble too. Happily I managed to befriend the young policeman and we ended up becoming great mates.
He became an honorary Ozzie and I became an honorary Thai policeman.
Anyway, the next morning we pulled into Nong Khai station and made our way to our guesthouse. The guest house is called Mutt Mee GH and I highly recommend it as it is owned and run by an English guy and his Thai wife and they really had done a great job of making the place comfortable.
Here is a lousy pic of the building that we stayed in.
Set on an enormous plot of land right beside the Mehkong River, the gardens had loads of seats/chairs made out of inverted car tyres which were extrordinarily comfortable.
We stayed at the guest house and just relaxed for a few days before hiring a motorcycle and heading off to to explore the surrounding countryside.
It was a great opportunity to do a few domestics.
Here is a pic of me doing a bit of washing. I only offered coz I still didnt know what size bra she wore, although I knew they were of an adequate size I just had to know.
Nong Khai was the first place that I ever saw the Asian sun. I mean the optical illusion of the sun being a huge orange orb in the sky. I havent got a pic but I can tell you that it is awesome when you see it.
It was my birthday so my galfiend treated me to first class meal at the Nong Khai Hilton.
She even had a cake delivered to the hotel ahead of time as a nice surprise as well.
The next day we set off on a small motorcycle to take in the sights.
