Pattaya 7th Annual Vegetarian Festival Announced


In conjunction with Pattaya City administration, the Sawang Boriboon Foundation and Pattaya Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) a conference was held on Tuesday to announce the 7th Pattaya Vegetarian Festival 2010.



Pattaya, the 28th of September 2010 [PDN]: Staged at the Central Festival Pattaya, Mayor Itthiphol Khunpluem, Pattaya TAT Director Niti Kongkrut, Sawang Boriboon Foundation Vice President Prasit Thongthitjarern, Central Festival General Manager Saran Tantijamnun and the Eastern Seaboard Chef Association Chairman Surasak Paukluab joined in announcing the 2010 Pattaya Vegetarian Festival.

Mayor Khunpluem recognised that this year represented the 7th instalment of the popular festival in Pattaya, with a greater emphasis being put on foreign visitors after last year’s successful turnout in that regard. The festival will take place over the 7th-17th of October 2010.

Activities and events organised for this year’s festival include traditional lion dance performances, Chinese martial art displays, concerts, competitions and numerous parades throughout Pattaya city center.



The opening parade, known as the god inviting ceremony, will be held on the 7th of October, moving from Bali Hai Pier in South Pattaya before passing along Walking Street and separating into two lines.

One section will continue along Beach Road until turning onto Central Pattaya Road, while the other will meet it via Pattaya Second Road.

Secondary parades will be held from the Sawang Fa Temple in Naklua, along the Sawang Fa Road out to the Larn Pho Yard at Naklua Beach.

The official opening ceremony for the festival will take place on the afternoon of the 7th, with a traditional meal for all attendees provided as a way of promoting good luck in the future along with night-time prayer ceremonies throughout the 10 day festival.

This years events will be concluded by a final parade on the morning of the 17th, starting from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation Grounds moving to the Larn Pho Yard before a ceremony involving holy water will end the festival.
