CITY HALL PROMOTES PATTAYA’S ANNUAL LONG BOAT RACES
The 9th Annual Long Boat Races will be held on the 21st-22nd of November at the “Lake Mabprachan Reservoir,” and a meeting was held on the 5th of November to promote the event to government agency delegates, officials and people of the press.
Pattaya, November 5th 2009 (PDN): A meeting was held today in Room 401at Pattaya’s City Hall to promote the upcoming Long Boat Races, which is a very exciting spectator event. This will be the event’s 9th year in succession, continuing a tradition that is observed throughout Thailand after the period of Buddhist Lent, considered to be a Royal activity that goes back to the days when Ayutthaya was the Thai Capital.

The conference committee consisted of the Pattaya Mayor Ittiphol Khunplome, Nongprue Mayor Mai Chaiyanit, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand Nitti Kongrut, local Government official Revat Phonlukin, plus other leading officials. During the meeting they discussed various aspects of planning for the festival and the activities that would be included, and during the meeting various forms of entertainment were used to promote the event. These included, four life sized animal actors, who stood behind the committee and acted in character during the meeting, as well as a entertaining performance put on by the local Kau Portong school children, which was well received.
The Long Boat Races will feature three separate boat races of varying size and design, with the main event as usual being the 55-man strong long boats, followed by the slightly smaller 30-man teams, then the miniature 12-man teams capping off and action packed weekend of racing.
Along with the boat races, this event will also have various other forms of entertainment including the much hyped Buffalo Races and of course the new traditional Klong Yao drum and dance event.

The 2-day festival helps conserve Thai art and culture as well as displaying the Thai’s unique traditional life style, which is considered a national heritage. The event also promotes domestic tourism among Thai people as well as helping to attract many foreign tourists in the area.
