Loy Krathong Festival Preparation Meeting.
On Friday Afternoon at Pattaya City Hall, Khun Wattana, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya chaired a preparation meeting to discuss the forthcoming Pattaya Loy Krathong Festival, which this year takes place on 12th November. Loy Krathong is held on the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar. "Loi" means "to float". "Krathong" is a raft about a handspan in diameter traditionally made from a section of banana tree trunk decorated with elaborately-folded banana leaves, flowers, candles and incense sticks. During the night of the full moon, many people will release a small raft like this on a river. Two major events have been organized here in Pattaya to celebrate Loy Krathong. The first will take place at the Bali Hai Port at the south end of Pattaya Beach and the second event will take place at Lan Pow in Naklua. At both events, stage events will take place, featuring Thai Traditional Dancing and there will be a Krathong competition for all ages where the most impressive Krathong will be selected.
