Ko Samet gets very busy at the top end of the island - Whitesand and the next one down. If you want some peace and quiet get down to Tub Tim and Ao Pudsa resorts after Ai Pai beach. Ok, it's a bit of a 'gay' scene but the bungalows are pretty good value - 700 baht for one up on the hill overlooking the beach. There are also smaller ones for around 500 baht. Well, that's what it cost last time I went late last year. As the hordes of Thai weekenders couldn't be arsed the go further than the first beach, the northern beaches get very crowded.

Well we are just back from Samet. 1300 for taxi pattaya to ban phe; 50 each for boat to Nadan; 100 for pickup to Silver Sands Resort; 1200 for bungalow;70 for beer; 70 for cheeseburger. We looked at White Sands but from our location it seemed desserted so we went on to Silver Sands. Great disco 11 - 3am. Many visiting ladies from Nadan after 11pm when their bars etc have closed down. Many of them were surprised to discuss money. (some however were old-hands) We had freebies Yipeeee! Speedboat from beach directly back to Ban Phe 1000; taxi back to Pattaya 1000.
Our thanks to Bwana Brad who gave us great info about transport and full details of the area. he has the Tan-Tan cafe and Internet shop directly opposite the main pier at Ban Phe. Great food and help means it is a must to call at before venturing on to Samet.
We had a great time, though glad to be back in the insanity that is Pattaya.

Correct! I don't have a camera. Am thinking of buying a Nikon coolpix 6 but am not sure if that is the best at the moment. I want one that is slim and has plenty of megapix!!! How did you know I had no camera??? My friend with me had one but his photos of me can not be shown here.

I went to a place called Lima Coco in Koh Samet. It was mid range on the price but the beach and surroundings were beautiful. They played chillout tunes through their stereo all day and it was kinda like cafe del mar in Ibiza. It was a very relaxing place and it was away from the backpackers and tourists.

The thing that got me about Samet good and bad there are a lot of little cove beaches. Well you know europeans the like to go naked on the beach. Seen a lot of fine white women but oh I think they brought there grandmothers too!!!!!!!!!!
Yes it is a bring your own girl type of place but very cheap.
Don't under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, but the rooms are a little dirty.

We've stayed at Samed Villa, which is between Pudsa and Silver Sands, twice and really enjoyed it. The guy who owns it is Swiss (Joseph) and he does put his prices up in Peak Season but he's open about it. The rooms there are excellent and I don't mind paying the extra. The food however is really bad. At the moment he's building so from 8 - 5 it's noisy too.

The food at Ao Pudsa is really good but they don't serve fresh coffee.... you can also get really good Indian food at Jeps

Went last week and stayed at White Sands... nice beach with so-so bungalow for 1000 baht aircon, 600 for fan.

As of September 16, the entrance fee doubled to 400 baht. Not accepting Thai license for local rate.

    Walk from the pier.
Take a left through the temple 100 metres or so before the paybooth.
You come out onto the beach free of charge.

First time I went it was great. Now the Scandis have moved in with big money I think it has lost alot of its charm and got expensive. I live 20mins from Ban Phe and I haven't bothered all year to go.

You get your bum felt as soon as you arrive with the National Park fee dual pricing policy. Thais pay a shiny button and what is it for foreigners these days? 400thb?

As I now do not frequent anywhere that operates this policy all National Parks are out of bounds to me, including Samet.

They've lowered the fee to 200 baht for most of the parks over a year ago.

    Thai National Park fees

Funny "park" that Koh Samet. Eurotrash disco, floating turds, and wall-to-wall wankers. They can keep it.
