lee-bet (this is not how to spell it)

Lee-bet (this is what it sounds like when spoken) is way down south and is the best beach/island i have even been to. it took a 14hours on a train from BKK (i took 1st class) to get there. Then a mini van drive for about an hour or so to get to the pear.
The Island is amazing. its not over crowed not so costly and you become very involved with the thai community as they live very close to the beaches.
the beaches itself are nice white sand, the water is very green and snorkeling is very good only 5-10 meters off shore. boat trips are very good and not over priced.

Can we assume you took the mini van in Hatyai? Did you drive then to Satun (Pak Bara)???

Where did the ferry (boat service) leave from?

Thanks for a bit more explanations!

When I went the ferry left from Pak Bara, made at stop at Koh Tarutao and then went on to Koh Lipe.

I wasn`t particularly impressed with this island though. It`s a tiny island with heaps of backpackers. As the island is flat compared to all the other islands in the archipelago the Moken/Chao Nam/Chao Ley settled here in large numbers decades ago. It has a large population compared to it`s size and it shows. Trash piled up, lack of water and untreated sewage.
It does however give travellers a choice of many different resorts to choose between as opposed to Tarutao and Adang, where only accomodation at the national park headquarter is available.

Adang, Rawi and Tarutao are magnificent. Koh Lipe is just a place to spend the night IMHO. But different strokes for different folks.
