Disagree with both your disagreements. However, I will say this. Mine is not an objective opinion, nor do I live solely on Phuket. I also live in Bangkok and do enjoy the time I spend in BKK also. Living only in Phuket gets a too boring.

(Though Bangkok is even worse, in my opinion)

Anyway, this is the first time I've been to Tanzania and it's not bad at all. A lot better than West Africa.

That's sad Agree 100% about West Africa but also worked in Tanzania for a while about 10 years ago and really liked the place -s'pose that's what is called progress if its turned shitty now.

I just went swimming on the north end of Patong Beach. The water was as clear and clean as anywhere on the island, virtually zero trash on the beach or in the water. With the new sewage treatment plant working it's very likely that the water quality is indeed good.

^I found the overall water quality to be really awful. What's not to like, with all the boats and jetskis, that pollute the once azure water.

Say what you will. The water right now is beautiful. I can say first hand that the beach and water at Patong are just fine.
Patong unlike the other beaches has many roped off areas protecting the swimmers from jet-skis and such.

Yes, I absolutely agree. The beach is lovely, clean and the water is sparkling right now. I just came back to Bangkok with my new tan I'll be showing off tomorrow to two TD members. Fat pig or not.

Go back and read my first post in this thread before you start making moral judgements on my character.

I saw all that stuff on my first trip to Bangkok back in '94 and haven't bothered to keep up to date on the current scene in that area since once you have seen it once the novelty is gone.

The holier than thou attitude of some folks who read half the story and form an opinion really gets up my nose. Those shows are a tourist attraction for first time newbies that attract a lot of people who have heard about it and want to see if its all true (and of course for the titillation and novelty value so that they can tell their friends all about it when they get home.)

I ask a question on behalf of some potential first time tourists (who are actually a middle aged couple) and you come back calling me a "sick puppy". Just where do you get off making such moral judgements about others? Are you one of those so pure and angelic that you have never personally seen such a show, (but only heard about it from others?) Probably too busy giving the little boys from the church quire some after hours tuition I imagine.

OK guys, thanks for the advice. Looks like I will have to tell them to go find the sex shows in Patpong while they are in Bangkok and NOT to stay in Patong while in Phuket.

I thought Patong was nice. I was ordered there by a superior officer for a little R & R from my study program. Also been to Karon Beach, which was nice, and Phuket Town.

Patong is a bit sleazy and there are A LOT of farangs.

I had the advantage of having a friend with a private car drive me to Karon with his family. It was a nice experience and was away from all the hustle and bustle that is Patong.

was there a month ago and frankly i don't know why it's so popular... best thing about it was the car from one of the small rental places outside the airport. BHT 1200 for a pretty new honda city, saved that many times over with the taxi to kata being 800 BHT already.

overpriced, overdeveloped, and full of very unfriendly people (mafia, no doubt).

we stayed in a hotel that was nice.. but it was not BHT 7000/night nice... not anywhere near that.

^ yeah, somehow they can get away charging 5 stars hotel price for international 4 star accomodations
