God places?? I think Patong is probably the wrong place to go for those, there is a nice Catholic church in Bangtao though..

Your right Patong beach is shit, I went there yesterday and you should definitely stay away..

As for the vendors why would anyone begrudge someone their making a living because it is a minor inconvenience to tourists or expats on their vacation in someone else's country... Would you rather they just blatantly mugged you on the way back to your hotel room or house?

Yes there are vendors but I have never found them to be rude or pushy, you just say 'no thanks' they have always respected that..

Same goes for the jet ski's and the boat rides..Tourist spots are about entertainment, period, if you don't want that, take a seaplane to some out island and be alone..

Patong beach is sure crap during the day but not so bad evening time.
Other beaches are far nicer during the day but well, not so good in the evening...

Sure there are better beaches but Patong's really not half bad. I've been down there swimming every morning for the past few days. Water is pretty clear. I saw loads of fish out there today. It's noticeably cleaner than pre-tsunami days.

The only good time I had in Patong was when a girl shot a raw egg out her poosy into my open mouth, during a show I might add, I'm not a pervert.

I think it was safe enough as this occured about 14 years ago, and therefore pre Bird flu time.

Patong is mental. Mind you spent good part of it with a legless swede.

Any rate I think its ok for 3-4 days, anything more and I expect it would get painful.

I knew about the outrageous tuk tuk mafia, I decided to rent a car, it was much cheaper that way, well worth it if rented from the Airport.

How much will it cost to rent a car for 1 or 2 days from the airport ?
