    Buying land in Thailand

    Just wondering if i would get a better deal if i got my Thai wife to go and find vacant land for sale by the owners or if i just went to Farang operated real estate agencies and websites?

    I'm assuming i will get a better deal using my wife to go direct to the land owner and keeping me out of sight until the deal is settled.

    But do you think the difference between this and using internet classifieds (e.g. Bahtsold, TV classifieds, TD classifieds and the Pattaya real estate agencies) would be much of a difference??

    Get you wife to contact the banks at the same area you plan to build and ask for the listing of all land plots which have been repossessed or liquidated.

    Then check the standard square wah cost for the area against the banks offer and then start negotiating down.

    Keep well away from the brokers and agents as you will save a lot of money.

    Thank heaps Loy Toy, thats what i thought but thought i should check it with you guys as you have a lot more experience of Thailand than i do. I've heard about the properties that banks repossess and it is something i'll definately have to get the missus to check out.

    When a person sells land, where I live, they usually pay commission to a person who can introduce a buyer. A farang near me bought 6 Rai and indirectly paid commission to the third party 60,000 Baht.

    Thats everywhere in Thailand, here they pay a commission in the UK you would buy them a drink so to speak.
