    Winai's Homestay

I went to stay at another homestay,75 km from Chiang Mai,on the road to Chiang Rai. There`s a turn-off leading to Mae Tho River Valley and Ban Muang Noi. This is were Trekker Lodge is located (I`ve had some great times there ). Carry on past Trekker lodge,up the road, until you run out of tarmac. Here`s were the fun starts, the homestay is 1,600 metre`s up and you have to walk ,(the walk just about killed me).Eventually, you arrive at a Muay Thai` pre-fight` training camp. This place looks very professional, but spartan....no electricity, but it has falang toilets and showers.I`ve seen some of the fighters training here, they run the 1,600 metre`s up and down, 4 or 5 times a day.
Anyway, about 250 metres to the left of the muay thai camp is Winai`s Homestay.

This is the only house on the hillside, so it can be very quiet (you cant hear the timeclock which broadcasts up and down the valley, every hour from 6a.m. until 6p.m.)

Main room of house, dominated by the bar.Dbl b/room upstairs,Dbl b/roomto right of stairs.

house has proper falang toilet and cold water shower

Winai, the owner(note the kettle that dont work without electricity)

It can get cold at night, but the daytimes can be very pleasant...

`specially if you bring your on voddy.....

Anyway,I stayed at the Homestay for 2 nights,400Baht a night ,then moved down to the Trekker Lodge. Sorry,no pic`s,but here`s a link:
Chiang Mai (Northern Thailand) Tourist Guide with info on how to get to Trekker Lodge and what to do/see in the valley.

One final point,if anyone goes up that way,Winai ,who speaks excellent english,is also a tour guide and can arrange personally guided tours.

^ Winai is one of my gf`s `brothers`,the gf took me to Trekker lodge, last year. This year,Winai invited me up to his gaff.

If you want to stay at Winai`s,you can contact Coo (Winai`s ex-wife), who is also the owner of Trekker lodge or pm me for Winai`s mobile number....

The place looks good. I'd like to visit. You mentioned a bit of a trek up the hill to get there. I've got a bit of a gammy leg, so that could be a problem I suppose. Any alternatives? To getting there I mean.

    cheers

^ funny you should mention the walk....I told Winai that the next time I visit,I want 4 strong guy`s to carry me up the hill on a chair. He told me,no problem...cost will be 400 Baht.
seriously, the hill is not that steep, so if you took it easy, you should have no problems....

This is not a `steep` hill. There is a path, with steps cut in,were needed. For me,it was a bit of a problem because I am seriously unfit, from to much booze,to much holiday and not enough exercise....
